Nicest places to live around Preston
Discussion
Relocating in the spring to Preston...Don't want to be living in city centre but don't know the general area well. Any suggestions on nice places to live on the outskirts? Ideally within 15 minute drive of centre, for work & somewhere with a few pubs/shops etc..More south of the city area as friends in Liverpool
To be fair Wrea Green is neither South, nor within 15 minutes of the centre of Preston. It certianly ticks the nice requirement though!!
Heading South from Prston there are some nice bits of Penwortham, which puts you near the A59, or Walton-le-Dale heading out towards Higher Walton. Easy access to the motorway from there, but if you're heading into Preston at busy times the traffic around there can be a pain. What sort of property are you looking for?
What are you looking for in your nice? Green, not rough, new build, quiet, child friendly? I'm currently living at the top end of Fulwood, North of the city pretty much as you get to the outskirts (until they finish building a millionty more houses in the area). It's nice, convenient for access to everything in Preston, and quick and easy to get out of Preston too.

I grew up in Fulwood in Preston, went to school in Broughton and parents have only recently moved away from the area.
If you want modern suburbia type, and 15 minute drive into the town centre then look at the newer (circa 2000-2004) Walton Le Dale developments or Longsands Lane area. My first house in 2001 was in the in Holland House Farm development, and the area has matured nicely over the years. My parents lived near the Anderton Arms pub in Longsands for about 20 years, and although there has been a lot more built since, it still feels quite rural with a good mix of age groups.
Cottam, to he North may be worth looking at, but a bit too close to Ingol for my liking, and probably the wrong side of town from Liverpool.
Further afield is Broughton, Barton and Goosnargh - just the other side of the M65 to the north of Preston, but with the A6 running straight down in the centre, and easy access to M6.
Also worth looking at the villages along the A59 towards southport - Hutton, Longton, Walmer Bridge. The Riversway/Docks flats/apartments may also be worth looking at if that is your thing.

Depending on what the OP is looking for I have spent a fair bit of time around there and if I had to move South, that is where I would be heading. Good transport links, good pubs, decent schools.Lot of huge estates going up at the moment, wonder if it's only a matter of time until what attracts people there in the 1st place has gone?
Thanks very much for all the info everyone...It's given me a shortlist to look at. I have looked at Walton le Dale area but wasn't sure if there was much to do there, as in local pubs etc. Suppose I'm looking for a large village/market town kinda thing with easy driveable access to Preston for work. Going to rent initially so we can get to know area bit better. Thanks again for all your advice 😀

I had looked at Walton le Dale already..Wasn't sure if there was much there though as in local pubs/shop etc. Don't want a rough area & kids now grown up so don't need schools. Want somewhere not totally rural, with a little bit going on...Just not the hustle & bustle of a city centre. Going to rent initially so we can settle into area & have a look around. Think I'll take a look at Fulwood too now though if easy access as will probably only add 15 minutes onto any Liverpool trips! Thanks for all the info...Much appreciated

Two very good gunshops in Preston though - Entwistle Guns and Bond & Bywater. That's your bag isn't it?!
As for Walton le Dale - there are a few nice pubs around the Capitol Centre side - Yew Tree, White Bull and Robert Peel - they are all in "the village" part of Walton, near the Nissan dealer. The other side is Bamber Bridge, which is loaded with pubs, but it's a bit "small town" and lot of local rivalries which usually means a noticeable police presence on a saturday night.

I live on Walton Park... top of Tood Lane North... there's one pub and one shop, so not great facilities.. but that means theres not too much traffic, and from what I know not a lot of crime.. The estate sits next to the A6 so goo acess into town, and quickly back out to the motorways. I work at Samlesbury so ha ve a nice cut through the back lanes that avoids any motorway nonsense.
Im going to be moving to Fulwood up near the hospital with my intended, so will have a 3 bed semi, small garden, attached garage, drive way for 3 cars, going for rent soon on Walton Park.

Cottom is ok, but very-much in the style of new build estates. There's going to be a new road that links Cottom to the M55 though. Penwortham is nice, but difficult to get into the city centre. Fulwood is nice, so is Bartle. Bit further out and Woodplumpton and Longton are also nice.
Be careful when looking for houses in Fulwood though. Lots of estate agents will describe a house as being in Fulwood when actually it is in Ribbleton which is an entirely different area (and definitely not recommended!).
