Can someone tell me how do I remove the window washer jets from the metal cowl top, without breaking them?

As I need to remove the metal cowl top to get the Plenum off. The metal mesh thing (cowl top) is riveted on with at least 10 small pop rivets. eek

Cheers

I removed the rivets at either end where they attach to the inner wings this allowed my mesh to lift significantly further and removing the plenum was easy

Thanks for the advice Bobfather.
But unfortunately I have a lot of pop rivets along the top under the rubber windscreen surround. I have removed them all but now the washer jets stop the movement of the mesh. I have also tried as other have suggested to move / shift the plenum, bend the mesh but the plenum just won't lift pass the mesh grill. frown

It's just connected straight to the rubber pipe, If your just lifting the wiper mesh it should have enough length to it to lift and leave in place.
My mesh had 3 rivets but is a later car?
Easy enough to drill out with a good bit.

Try carefully to pull the jet up and out of the mesh, it should come out connected to the hose.

Hi Alun, cheers for the information. I seems that the earlier models had 10 or so pop rivets.eek
I will try to pull the washer jet upwards then. I was not sure what to do and did not want to break them off!!

Mine had a dab of sixaflex or similar also holding them in place.
Whatever you do make sure the tube doesn't fall back inside the body- nightmare to get it back!

hi mate.
If the mesh has to come off then try leaving jets unless there's mastic or something holding it back. Once the mesh lifts off you can just pull the pipes off the back of the jets. It's a simple push fit.

I managed to pull my jets out with the pipe coming through the hole enough for me to detach them.
If all your doing is lifting mesh for better access I'd try leaving them in place as you are likely to knacker the rubber grommets that secure them in the mesh.
As I say there should be a long enough length of pipe on the jets to lift them up enough for your task without removing them.

Someone's added those rivets I reckon. !

As Dungman says avoid them falling back at all costs.
Goodluck. smile

So........
Good and the not so good!

Good = the mesh has been removed and I have been able to remove the plenum. smile

Not so good = While gentle lifting the mesh with a flat bladed screw driver the washer jet broke !!!!mad
So how do I get to the back of this washer tube?? Dash off job or is it more involved that that??
help cry

Someone who has replaced or tracked the pipes should be along to suggest how to access them. I've never gone that far so I can't be sure.

looks like the pipe is clashing with the hole and holding it back. Or it's masticed in there.

Oh dear....

If I understand what you have done correctly this is dash top off then get your chosen cutting device (I used a dremel) and cut a post box in the fibreglass to access.

It was a long time ago so memory hazy. If nobody else pops up with guidance or a better solution I will get some photos of where I cut my hole...

Could you remove the bonnet lock and drill a hole behind there?

This might help as well..............

I mean how did TVR do it at the time?
They did not build/mould the fibre glass around the wipers and jets!
As Alun said there must be away that I can't see at the moment.

You definitely need to put a blanket or similar over those trumpets. If anything drops in you'll have a new annoying problem to solve

To get to the underside of the washer jets you need to remove the dash top, there is an access hatch approx 300mm x 50mm in the centre of the bulkhead. You may need to lift up the dashpad padding to see this clearer. Mine was held by 4 pop rivets.

Take care with your hands when undoing the 3 fasteners holding the dash top, nasty fibreglass shards....nearly as bad as the door cards..
