My long held plan of relaying the lumpy bumpy uneven patio slabs in our back garden is going to come to fruition in the next two weeks.

As I understand it, I need loose aggreate, sand, more sand and some cement (it's currently thick hard clay, plastic sheet and slabs with nothing between them) and surprisingly B&Q seem to be the cheapest (£39 a bag) for what I think I need.

Here's the problem/question, the bags will obviously arrive on a truck with a crane, does anyone know if they'll lift it over a 2m wall?

We have no driveway and there's really no where to put (it's all public highway) outside of out house.

No point in ordering if they can't deliver!

I imagine a hi-ab might struggle at 2m.

Builders merchants, 1 ton bag, delivered with a proper lorry.

My proper lorry will put a 1 ton bag 40ft away from the centre of the lorry !

Actually, phone the local quarry, ask them what the price is for the things you want and see if they have a recommended bloke and lorry to deliver.

It's 7pm and I can't make it up there tomorrow so I thought I'd try you
knowledgeable lot.

Here's the offending dump garden. Soon to be patio, foreground, said wall, background:

To be honest I already don't think they can do it but I was hoping someone might tell me otherwise!

Getting it over the wall is easy, it's lowering it down to ground level that will be the issue.

If you're pulling up all the flags can't you stack them near the wall to make a pedestal to put the stuff on?

Edit: come to think they delivered over my 1.6m hedge no issue at all and so 2m may be fine?

Hang over wall and slice the bottom of the bag?

Just the wall is no problem, the bed of the truck is 4 foot off the ground already, but the buildings either sideof the wall and the post in the middle will cause a problem. Depends on the ammount of space the other side of the wall and the size of the crane, but I would be very wary of doing that lift.

This , loose is ten times easier than bagged anyway, the hi ab driver will advise you if it's ok , he will also re assess his decisions if your hand is in your pocket !

From what I can see it'll be easy to do that even with a small Hiab - as long as you are there to assist/unhitch etc.

Well that's that.

The wife stopped in to B&Q this morning for some other stuff and ask the question. Apparently they don't lift deliveries over walls or obstacles. Ever.

Heath and safety innit.

Looks like I'm going to have to spend a bit more and buy individual small sacks.

Go to a local builders yard they'll sort you out

I meant height, not reach. Sure it will get it up 2 metres but how does it get it down without the beam touching the wall?

I work for jewsons, as a remote hiab operator/ driver

jewsons company policy is if you cannot see where you are setting down your lift you cannot start the lift.

It is also gross misconduct to stand on the bed of the truck and operate the lorry loader in any way,so no peeking over the top of the wall that way.

you also must not leave your truck running unattended,so no lifting over the wall and walking around into the garden to complete the lift.

That said however most drivers are flexible on how much notice we take of jewsons policys

if you pass the attitude test ( a cuppa and not being a demanding bellend builder) most of us would bang it over that wall no problems.

I wcan put a boat in the harbour with the sea 4 m below the quay side so a 2m wall is no problem.

My truck mounted Crane is a slightly bigger version of this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x51k00A2RTY

Crane action is at 1.48 if you don't want to watch the rest.

Like I said, ring a quarry, get a proper haulier to do it not a glorified shop.
