Evening All,

Quick question please - we have noticed that cars from other companies are starting to park their cars in our car park, forcing our employees to have to park out on the road.

I know that clamping is out of the question, and that barriers are another (expensive) option..

As an easy option is it legal to put those 'parking violation' stickers on the windscreen of cars that we know shouldnt be there.

Nothing overly fancy.. just those ones that are a bh to peel off as a deterrent for repeat offenders!

No. You cannot put stickers on the windscreen (because some people are stupid enough to drive off looking round the sticker and it'll be your fault when they drive into something!) but you can put them on the side windows.
Don't forget that once you have stuck them on the side windows cut the stickers into tiny pieces with a razor blade. It won't damage the glass but it will be a REAL bh to get off!!

Is not the use of stickers which do not come off easily and cleanly, criminal damage?

After all, what's the difference between spending half-an-hour cleaning sticker residue off a windscreen, or half-an-hour realigning headlights because someone tried to pull a headlight off?

The trading estate where I have my unit have tried all reasonable methods (it is train using commuters that are our problem as the station is next door), the only thing that seems so far to be working for us , sadly, is to use one of those horrid private parking companies nobody likes.

Bournemouth Uni used to use the sticker method when I was there 20 years ago. There was no looking round the sticker without doing an 'Ace Ventura' - it covered the whole windscreen.

Thanks.

Any rules on whether it has to be drivers / passengers side, front or rear?

Fingering the rogue parkers could be a plan smile

For the Op, I like the suggestion of a chap on the entrance asking for passes, but that will be much more expensive than a barrier

It is not unusual, if a car park has insufficient spaces, for employees of the same company to double park, effectively blocking their colleague in. I would take that approach, as long as the car park is for your exclusive use and you are not inconveniencing other valid users. Make them come and find you. I assume you have "Private Parking" signs. Just add a contact number. "Mr. X is in a meeting and will move his car in 15 minutes". Job jobbed.

Barriers are likely to be the only long term sustainable solution. Expensive relative to the other options, but how valuable is your time going around sticking stuff on people's cars, risking confrontations, etc?

Can't you just ask a local, not part of your business, to unofficially get a big van and park these idiots in. Just leave the van for 24 hours parking them in. If they come to ask/protest, then just tell them it isn't your van and must be another w*nker just like them.
If they involve plod, then you can also tell them that the idiot shouldn't have been parked there either, and it isn't your van.

Why not go and see the other companies and make them aware?

1. Issue your own employees with parking stickers to go in the front windscreen.

2. Give proper visitors a pass to display on the dashboard.

3. Anyone not displaying (1) or (2) gets stickered (place several large warning signs around the car park). These should be suitable: https://www.flashpark.co.uk/Product-View.aspx?pid=...

Brief search of the web brought this up. I've no idea where it was originally from. (Not usually mud that was smeared on cell walls IME, although it was usually a brown colour.......)

ETA Appears to link to a thread on the Honest John forums.

You should try a 'Search' on PH as this has come up regularly before.

Paintman is correct. You can sticker them. You can buy stickers that are difficult to remove. If you do so, you leave yourself liable for the cost of removal. Which means if you've stickered in such a way that the vehicle can't be driven, there could be a call out fee for the removal.

In UK (excl. Scotland?) it is not legal to clamp. That includes blocking in a vehicle. Which is why I said:

If someone who isn't you and isn't one of your employees blocked one of these rude parkers, then you wouldn't be liable for anything.

Lots of car parks where barriers aren't viable.

I share the OP's pain. The number of selfish parkers seems to have increased considerably.
