£100K Garage: James Stevens

Fun on two wheels and four, road and track for James's £100K selection

Name: James Stevens
Previously owned: Nissan 200SX (S14), Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 4 GSR, BMW 330Ci, Subaru Impreza WRX, Honda Civic Type R (EP3), BMW 318iS (E36) x2, Citroen Saxo VTR, Renault Clio 1.4 RT
Currently owned: BMW 320d xDrive M Sport (company car), Mazda MX-5 Mk1
On the shortlist: McLaren 570S, Radical SR3, Aston Martin V12 Vantage, Ferrari F355, Ariel Nomad

Japan: Honda NSX
Cost
: £39,995
Balance: £60,005
Why I chose it: "A mid-engined supercar (by 90s standards) with a great chassis, great looks, screaming VTEC V6, that Senna link and it's appreciating in value. To my eyes, this one looks amazing!"

Germany: Audi RS4 Avant
Cost
: £15,989
Balance: £44,016
Why I chose it: "The Audi would be my daily, sensible, four-wheel drive, spacious well-built car. That 4.2-litre V8 and all-weather grip allow me to compromise on the extra focus an M3 might offer... it's the sensible one after all."

UK: Radical SR3
Cost
: £13,995
Balance: £30,021
Why I chose it: "Well if you're going to have a track car you may as well do it properly! These are renowned for their pace and focus. With that screaming Hayabusa engine, sequential box and low weight this would be so much fun." [Unfortunately, James's choice is now sold. Check out the other SR3s for sale here - NA]

Rest of Europe: Renaultsport Clio V6
Cost
: £22,995
Balance: £7,026
Why I chose it: "I've loved these since I first saw one. OK, so the second generation 255 model is more sought after, but I still love the craziness of plonking a V6 where the back seats of a Clio should be! Now that Renault 5 Turbo 2 prices have gone so high this is the next best thing. This would join the NSX as a sound investment while also being something I really love."

USA: Harley-Davidson 1000 Sportster
Cost
: £4,499
Balance: £2,527
Why I chose it: "I had about £7,000 left to spend and nothing on four wheels really took my fancy from America... Although a 1987 Cadillac Coupe DeVille at $5,800 with change left over to travel to America and take it on a road trip feeling like I'm in Beverley Hills Cop was tempting! I went for this Harley instead with change left over to start a chopper project... or just pay for fuel and tyres for the new collection!"

Great choices. I'd also definitely have the NSX, RS4 and Radical in my list.

No wonder the radicals sold, follow the link for others and surely the 1 & 3 in the article are in the wrong order?

Very nice choices, except the Hog. I would buy one of these instead: https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds?Category=m...

A really cracking bike. But personal choice I guess.

Very neat garage and some excellent choice. Prices are deceptive. The RS4 and Radical are substantially cheaper than the Clio.

Just love the Clio though. Back when Renault did not really care but just made stuff they liked.

Nice choices I, like you, love the madness of the Clio. As a kid I drooled over the Turbo 2s. Silly money now though..................
