We had Hillarys measure up and quote for us yesterday evening. We're happy with the product and the company. They initially quoted £900 for 8 roller blinds on windows each approx 110 x 160cm.

He quickly reduced it to £845 and then allowed us to upgrade the chain mechanism to metal rather than plastic at no cost.

Just wondering how far others have been able to negotiate down with Hillarys?

The figure I'm working towards is £700, not sure how optimistic this is...!

Can you fit them yourself?

Made to measure for under £300 here.

I used them once and never would again based on the quality or lack thereof.

The salesman assured me all blinds would be sewn. They werent, they were glued together and they predictably then started to separate at the joins, looking bloody hideous.

When I got the salesman out he denied he said they would be sewn and stated there isnt a sewing maching in the entire factory. Had the wife not had post partem issues and my having enough to deal with I'd have taken it further.

Overpriced rubbish. I binned them after 6 months and got a local firm in.

No, I can't and don't want to. Would rather pay a premium to have this done for me.

Nothing about sewing was mentioned to us. If they come apart, then I trust their 5-year guarantee would cover the repair.

Hillary's always gets a really rough write up here, we used the below & were very happy. Fitting was easy enough, even finding a way round the lintels. Any local handyman would have them up in a day.

We're local to you and used Drapes & Blinds.

Don't bother - despite good reviews, one of our windows it turns out has a bowed windowsill (unknown to us). They didn't factor this in to the vertical blind, so they hung correctly at the sides but touched the windowsill in the middle. They came back, took them down to 'adjust them'... which they did by hand. Presumably they mean by the hand of a blind person randomly attacking our blind with a pair of scissors. They went back up and they'd taken anything between 0.5cm and 3cm off them, seemingly at random. My wife and I ended removed them and sorting them by order to make the best of a bad job. Tried to get them round time and time again but it was like trying to wrestle a greased whippet.

I fully appreciate what you mention about not wanting to fit yourself.

We bought ours from 24/7 blinds and at approx 14 windows so far we are very very happy with quality, go a local trades person to fit. We also got plantation shutters which although a long lead time were the cheapest I could find online!

Failing that I would give it to a local company!

We used a local blind company, when they gave us the final figures they were not far off internet prices.
I had them fit too as we are in a modern house and I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of getting good fixings in.

Try here as well: https://www.directblinds.co.uk/

Made to measure, next day blind company. High quality product from a family owned firm. We have roller blinds, curtains, wooden blinds and roman blinds throughout the house. 20 in total.

As good as the day they came out of the factory.

Here too. Had several roller and venetian blinds - happy with quality, accurate to measurements you provide and easy to fit.
As someone said, if you don't want to fit yourself, it's a straightforward job for a local handyperson.

For the roller blinds, we always go for the blackout option, which really does block the sun well in a bedroom.

Just used these for 7 wood venetian blinds in our new place. Quality is excellent and their after sales was brilliant

We had a local company come round this evening to quote so we could compare it. It was £300 MORE than Hillarys, so suddenly they look like good value...
