All.

Air conditioning in my wifes Audi A6 has failed. VAG COM pulls up the G395 air conditioning sensor.
I have bought this for £63 from Audi and am trying to fit.

Do i need to remove the front bumper of the car to replace this?

The sensor also comes with a O ring, is there anything i need to apply to this prior to installing? I cant reach the sensor and think that I probably need to remove the bumper.
I did find this:

http://www.audi-portal.com/en/diagnostic/sensors_1...

and also:

It looks like the front of the car has to come off - but my audi guy has told me that it can be done without removing the front.

Any help appreciated - including if anyone is close to swindon - Free beer!

That is the address to an online Audi catalog which shows exploded diagrams of parts and may help in the removal of the bumper.

Having previously had an A6 Lemans 3.0 I can say you will have to remove the bumper to get to that but there are not that many bolts to remove.

Thanks Gavin.

I managed to repalce this part today. You were right, i had to take the bumper off the car.

I used these two videos to help:

Removing the bumper:

Good video - except they forgot to tell you about the three additional T25 torx screws in the wheel arch on the leading edge.

The G395 sensor iteslf:

Great video.

I managed to do this in about 3 hours on my own. I am having a great rush of achivement just now.

Sorry to resurrect such an old threat, but I have had the same issue on my 2006 A6, and have ordered the sensor and would like to fit it myself. Kwik fit have told me that my system is still pressurized correctly, so it must be the G395 part which is faulty.

Can anybody tell me, what are the hazards with replacing this sensor? When I remove the old sensor, will it release the gas from the system, and is this potentially dangerous? Is there a safe way to bleed to the pressure out before I go taking the sensor out, and should I do this via the high or low pressure valve on the air con lines?

Once the sensor is replaced am I okay to re-gas the system myself using a home air con recharge kit from Halfords?

Replacing it doesn't release any of the refrigerant. The connection is a schrader valve like the ones on your tyres.

If your system is fully pressurised you won't need to re-gas it at all.

^^ What he said.

Its an easy fix tbh.
You have to be brave to remove the front of the car and be careful as the front bumper is heavy and the fog lights are attatched by thin wires.

The sensor replacement doesnt loose any of te gas, so a quick un screw and remove, new part screw back on.

I am no specialist mechanic and was surprised by how easy this was.

Thanks a lot guys! I'm now much more confident attempting this myself... can't wait to have functioning AC again! That bumper removal video is super handy, thanks for posting that. I guess there's a fluid line somewhere going to the headlight washers too?

I tried to get my hands down in there yesterday but annoyingly there's a little plastic cover in the way which I can't remove without taking the bumper off... I reckon if that wasn't there I'd be able to do it with the bumper still in place.

If the headlight washers are like the ones on my S5 they are attached to the car but just poke through a little hinged cover in the bumper.
