Ment to put are instead of is before the PH grammar experts get me!

Why do they keep it a secret? Lots of different packages on the website not really explained.

Does anyone have a personal monthly contract with them and how much is it if you don't mind me asking?

Id be looking at the Leeds branch if I was to join.

The lack of pricing seems to me the price is negotiable, has anyone any ideas on how to achieve the best deal?

Thanks All,

Danny

I enquired about the Newcastle one, and there are different plans as you say, I think for what I wanted (gym, pool, sauna etc) it was something like nearly £100 / month each.

Seems to be savings of 25% if you join up as a "couple"

How would david lloyd know if I just found someone else to join the same time as me and get a couple rate?

The reason DL don't give out prices is because they want to entice you in and give you a sales tour.

Lloyds offer a lot more in terms of facility and service than most other clubs meaning if they just gave out a price to the question "How much is it to join" they would look very uncompetitive against the likes of Pure gym who generally charge less than £20 a month.

They will normally aim to entice you in on the basis that they want to know exactly what you are looking for and will then tailor a package specifically to you.

The reality is this will be there normal price (They will have a variety based on hours of use, single or multiple clubs, student, towel use and PT) but it won't be a package designed only for you.

As for negotiation? Generally the fees are fixed but at month end they may be keen to hit a target and do a deal.

Because they want to screw you out of as much as possible.

If all the rates were on show you would pick the cheapest.

When I was a member there about 14 years ago i'm pretty sure it was on its way to £120 a month, was about £65 when I joined just before it opened.

Yes they are really good if you want to be in a health club biased towards family's

at the Leicester one to many people tend to use it as a creche ,yummy mummy's doing coffee in the cafe while tamsin and Jeremiah run riot in the pool

i no longer use DL for that reason

I worked as a life guard at a DL once (in Stockton).

Paid way way less than what you'd get as a casual at a council pool, but they made up for it with free membership they said. Like you'd want to spend your free time there after spending hours sweating to death on poolside in 40+ deg heat, putzing about in the plantroom and fishing st out the baby pool!

Nice gyms though, certainly one up on the usual. Total fitness probably has more kit inside mind, but still seems very tesco value in experience.

The Stockton one had an out door heated pool and hot tub. They also had a kids club for parents to dump their offspring in as well as salons, massage parlor, nail bars and a decent coffee shop-cum-canteen which sold very nice Pizza.... I guess a health club rather than just a gym.

The Glasgow one's like that. Saturday morning is like going to a 80s nightclub. Yummy mummies all dolled up sitting in the bar all day while while the weans are in the kids club.

There’s one not a million miles from me, and a very strong rumour has it – that a number of women use it to get “serviced” by their personal trainers while their husbands are away. Whether this is part of the monthly deal – I doubt it…

I was a member of DL about 5 years ago. I had to pay their top rate as I wanted to use the gym after work which was their peak time. Was about £85 a month to use the free weights, machines and cardio suite. A lot of money to use a treadmil! Like RAC membership, the fee would automatically go up a few quid every year too once they have you hooked in.

Please be aware that they can make it difficult for you to leave. I think it was 3 months notice(!). Lots of people online complaining that 3 months after their notice letter was handed in, DL still charged them as they claimed never to get a letter and they had to start the process again! ALWAYS take 2 copies for your "intention to leave" letter and get them to sign both so you have one in your records in case it was ever questioned. I did this after doing my research. The staff gave me some dirty looks that day, presumably as I foiled their scam! Slippery barstewards.

The thing that used to cheese me off the most was having to walk right through the cafe bar to get to the changing rooms. After work at 5:30pm I was always starvng and you had to walk past fatties munching burgers, pizzas, chips (etc) while swigging pints of beer. Shouldn't they be serving salads and healthy food?

I heard a figure of £85 a month recently.

All I know is that it's a favourite Facebook 'check in' for those that go, Just so they know that you know they've potentially got a few quid.

It comes across as a bit desperate, but it always makes me smile.

Wonder how many families pay for a full on membership and never go ?

The one I go to is closing as Lidl want to expand, bloody great, all that areas needs is more opportunities for buying Breaded ste and Oven Chips, should see some of the sights waddling through in their nightwear.

So, looks like Total Fitness but will be more expensive, DL is further away and too expensive, cant stomach £100 ish a month for a gym.

£50 quid a month, mainly go as it's right next door to the office. Used to use Pure Gym at my old place for 20 quid a month which was much better value for money IMO. The free weights area here is fairly small and always busy with meatheads slamming the weights down on the floor !

As already mentioned, it's not the price to join it's the cost of leaving that can be expensive.
