Importing car to UK from Switzerland.
Discussion
It is impacted by, amongst other things, the reasons for importing.
Someone importing their car to the UK from Switzerland as part of their permanent relocation may be able to claim relief from VAT and duty.
Section 5.1 https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/notice-...
0300 200 3700 is the HRMC number to check the rates specific to your situation.

What taxes/charges would be payable on a car thats greater than 10 years old, being brought into the UK from Switzerland?
It's definitely been in CH all its life, not imported there from F or D?If it's been EU registered at any stage, then zero.
If it's not, then IIRC 10% duty plus VAT, on the current value.

At some point in it's life, it will have been imported into Switzerland.Quick way of telling if the car was imported into Switzerland from somewhere else (i.e. not from the official importer):
Ask to see the Car's paper- the grey Fahrzeugausweis. Section 24 will have an X rather than a longer code (e.g. 1PF3 56) to denote an import.

A challenge here with a US car is that there is no way of knowing from which country it was imported (and would most likely be direct from the US)
