Youtube channel thread
Discussion
With the growing prevalence of professionally produced and high-quality Youtube content, I thought it would be good to have a place to discuss the rich and wide variety of channels and episodes on the Youtube platform.
I know we have a Youtube thread in the Lounge, but that is more 'one off' viral type content and the thread in GG is dedicated to car vloggers or car content.
I'm a keen watcher of regular youtube content and find it more and more engaging compared to regular TV, as well as having a much wider variety and diversity. I subscribe to many non-motoring channels that produce content of high quality on a regular basis and thought we should have somewhere to share and discuss the creators, channels and their output. Youtube is a maturing platform hosting shows that are very often 'exclusive' to that environment, so let's get sharing!
So... my first contribution is Alec Steele - Blacksmith.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWizIdwZdmr43zfxl...
He makes daily, high-quality content around the art of Blacksmithing and knife making, he has a hugely engaging and unique style that can take some getting used to, but I think he's great. He's had some great growth in subscribers this last 6 months and has hired a videographer/editor to up the quality even more. He's just moved workshops to somewhere bigger based on his success, but a lot of his older videos are of him by himself creating some very cool things and throwing some heavy sparks along the way! Tons of older episodes, but he produces new stuff on an almost daily basis (maybe 5/6 15 minute videos a week).
He's currently on part 3 of a multi-part series making an African throwing knife (Hunga Munga).
I'll post a few more of the channels that I like if the thread takes off, so let's see how this goes.

I like to live vicariously through Jon Olsson occasionally - surely completely living the dream?

My kinda thread. Big Rig Videos is one of my more recent finds. Also rate Captain Joe's channel for anyone with a laymans interest in commercial aviation/piloting.
I used to detest youtube but became dependant on it when working overseas where TV was non-existent and now I have 50+ channels in my feed. Still use it as my primary source of videos even though I'm back in the UK; hardly ever touch terrestrial.

Wow, 2 of the channels I've discovered this week are already here!.
Alec Steele is a really "infectious" in a nice way - kind of a Guy Martin character and he is very watchable.
Primitive Technology is one of those thnigs I watch and think "That is so damn obvious but I'd never have though of doing it".
Here's my contribution, as guy shooting random stuff with a .50 BMG. Again, he doesn't seem to take himself (or safety) too seriously...

Secondly, Pai's Kitchen. Thai cooking for dummies (well, fairly easy to follow recipes at least).

He's like a real-life caveman. I sense he's inside all of us just below the surface.https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAL3JXZSzSm8AlZyD...

Cody's lab. https://www.youtube.com/user/theCodyReeder
Not so much of the food videos but scroll back for some geeky science stuff.

Definitely one of my favourite channels, and proof that Americans can actually do sarcasm and subtle humour. I use Youtube a lot so have dozens of favourites, but just a few:Ahoy - videos about the history of certain games and weapons. Doesn't upload often, but when he does they're of high quality
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCE1jXbVAGJQEORz9n...
Epic Rap Battles of History - I'm not into rap music but love what these guys do, can always find 5 minutes to rewatch one of favourites
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMu5gPmKp5av0QCAa...
GGmanlives - reviews first person shooter games
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKlUrYO3i9MDlL45I...
Lazy Game Reviews - mostly 80's and 90's PC stuff
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLx053rWZxCiYWsBE...
Nostalgia Nerd - British version of the above
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7qPftDWPw9XuExpS...
Ryan Hollinger - film and game theory, brings up lots of interesting points and ideas with being smug or condescending
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCphlppLaedKn0BgXA...
OSW Review - three Irish lads talking about old wrestling shows, the type of people who could read out a phone book and make it hillarious

I have discovered some very good space related content. Apart from the obvious ones, like NASA and ESA, I enjoy watching "Vintage Space" from Amy Shira-Teitel and the "Curious Droid" channel.
TMRO is very good for a weekly round up of launches and other space/astronomy related events.
I recently discovered "The Flying Reporter" who is a south of England based private pilot and who records most of his flights. He is a TV professional so his little programmes are put together very well.
YouTube is becoming a very good resource and I probably spend more time watching it now than old fashioned TV.

^I found Vintage Space just a few months ago; very interesting channel.
Attache - Really well produced city tour guides
Ammo NYC - Detailers probably know this one well; Larry Kosilla's channel where he epic OCD is applied to car detailing
White Details Jim White's detailing channel
Noriyaro Australian car nut living in Tokyo; puts out a lot of vlogs about Japanese car meets and drifting.
Big Clive Edinburgh-based electrician who takes apart everyday objects to show you how they work.
Also a big fan of LGR and Ahoy as mentioned above (and his second channel Ahoy2) as mentioned above; I'll add to the mix:
Metal Jesus Rocks Ex-ID and Valve game developer who now runs an epic video game collection
Kelsey Lewin Part of the MJR team with her own channel
