Caught for speeding Germany
Discussion
Got the letter today 2 months after the offence
I didnt think info was exchanged between here and Germany, obviously wrong.
Doing 61kph in a 50 and a caution fine of 25 euros.
Letter and 3 photos(car, face and no plate)
Going back there next year, is it best just pay up and move on?
Thoughts
Cheers

Yeah, for £25 I'd pay it just to save the worry, especially if returning. I best be careful in future, normally do a few trips over to Germany/France/Italy each year, didn't realise this was happening until now. I'm going later this month but in a ex London black cab so should be safe from speeding in that
Well if you don't pay the bill will get bigger and then eventually result in a prosecution in your absence just like anywhere else. In the last two months I have managed to accumulate letters from France, Austria and Italy. Just pay them and forget them. Well I was in a hurry! No the reality is that I was just over the 50 km/hour limit in the cities. Very low tolerances.

I can't remember the exact numbers but a German colleague got banned for a month for two really minor speeding infringements within a few weeks of each other.Tends to be graduated fines in Germany, the whole points on your licence thing isn't so prevalent.

The Germans are so organised that there is an easy to understand table of fines and bans.
If you get a repeat offence in or outside a city over 26km/h (within the 3 year limit) then you will get a 1 month ban.
Higher speeds result in more pain.
Link is here if anyone wants to check.

So it is quite believable that his mate got banned for a month.
Slopes away from keyboard......................... yes it happened to me a couple of years ago.

Just curious now.......if a UK driver with a UK driving license met the criteria for a ban in Germany because they had been speeding in Germany and needed to drive in Germany during the period that the ban should be in place, what would happen when he/she arrived at the border? Nothing probably! However if they ran a check on the reg or licence then you would be treated as anybody else caught driving while banned. Licence physically removed from your possession, to be given back at the end of the ban period, likely notice of prosecution and if convicted a fine typically one months income (first offence!) and up to a one year ban.

Depends whether they had a UK licence or a German licence perhaps.Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
