I just watched the final movie in the rebooted Apes franchise last night and I can't express enough how awesome I have found the entire series. And this is coming from a position of not having any interest in it when the first movie came out. I had this pre-conceived notion of not wanting to watch a movie where mankind gets wiped out and the apes win.

How wrong I was. Eventually, curiosity got the better of me and I gave the first one a watch. That was me hooked. The second one was a cinematic masterpiece. The raw emotions of it all and the depth to the characters is just fantastic. You come to realise that at a basic level the humans and the apes are not all that different, and that the main story isn't so much man vs ape as it is the complex relationships between characters on both sides. It's about individuals, rather than species.

The final one in the series was very good with a surprising twist to it and although I didn't find it as good as the 2nd, it was a good way to end the trilogy. I am surprised there wasn't more focus on certain areas at the end but overall I think I did a good job.

How did others find the films? Anybody else start out like me, not really being interested but end up blown away?

I thought the way they portrayed Caesar throughout the trilogy was superb. Essentially, the whole series was a character study of a great leader and warrior and you kind of forgot it was about monkeys.

Reminded me a bit of Spartacus at times.

Yeah absolutely. The depth of his decision making and his reasons for doing so are fascinating. Watching a character grow like that and seeing him battle with his conscience was brilliant IMO. Obviously not everybody agrees biggrin

Something else I liked was how throughout the three films, the main protagonists all believe that they are doing the right thing. Even Koba. Nobody is doing anything just to be a nasty fker, but because they believe that they are doing right by their people. That blurring of the lines between who is a "goodie" and who is a "baddie" really makes it a compelling story IMO. It's very much about perspective.

I'm a big fan of the first two. The third one was not interesting at all and the film took way too many leaps trying to tie that POS story together.
