BMW Charge for Real-time Traffic Information (RTI)?
Discussion
Free for three years then you have to pay. Their connected drive site has the details but it’s confusing. For my wife’s 64 plate the core connected drive is lifetime free but RTTI is 40£ a year. For my 12 plate connected drive is 140yr and includes RTTI. The contact desk team are Abismal thr concierge team are awesome.

Is it over a year or three years old? I think it comes as part of bmw online subscription packages now
I believe it’s permanent now, once you’ve bought the car but until recently you did have to renew after 3 years.
It wasn’t worth it IMO.
There’re been lots of issues with the whole CD recently too.

Bought my 2012 X5 and the real time traffic information is still up to date and I haven't re-subscribed.
Maybe some special deal. At that time it was certainly normal to just last 3 years. My 530 stopped after 3 years, I didn’t think it was worth the £100 odd they wanted to renew. I considered getting a G30 and noticed it’s permanent with them.

Does the mean that Mercedes, Land Rover (I know it's rubbish) etc don't have RTI or just don't charge for it?
My Mercedes came with TomTom traffic data free for the first 3years. I have had to pay something like £80 for another 3 year subscription.Never bothered with it on our SLK because we don’t do many long distance runs with it but I understand MB charge about £50 per year. They offer longer subscriptions at a discount.
There are two systems.
The most basic is traffic event information broadcast over FM - this is Traffic Message Channel (TMC). Most navigation systems can receive this and it free of charge to receive.
BMW RTTI is a second, more detailed system which receives data over a cellular connection and provides traffic flow info etc. It is this service which is chargeable once your 3 years subscription has run out.
Without paying for RTTI your system will drop back to TMC so you'll still get some traffic data, just not as detailed or as useful

I've contacted the help desk and am awaiting a definitive response.... If it's the norm that RTI is chargeable for newer cars then I suppose that's just the way it is.
None of my older cars are charged and neither is Range Rover which is newer.
Because your older cars and the Range Rover have TMC. This is free on BMW as well.None of my older cars are charged and neither is Range Rover which is newer.
RTTI is free for 3 years then it's about 50 quid a year.

I'm getting this page following the registration of my 1 month old M3 but 5 days later and nothing's happening in the car, is this delay usual?
Do you see the RTTI sign turning to yellow or red in your sat nav? I have the business nav and when selecting RTTI it lists traffic problem but not necessarily on route - e.g. most mornings it lists M1 MK to St Albans as congested. Reply from BMW:
"All BMW cars come ConnectedDrive Services for 3 years and 90 days. Once this comes to an end you’ll need to purchase ConnectedDrive Services again which is the core option which allows you to purchase additional services such as RTTI, Remote Services and Concierge.
From looking at the specification of your i8, I can see that your car comes with Professional Navigation option 609, this includes RTTI for 3 years. Now that it’s expired, you’ll need to purchase again through our ConnectedDrive Store.
RTTI: 1 month (£1), 5 months (£25) and 12 months (£40)"
That's that then....

Can it be set up to renew every month at £1? That seems to be the cheapest way. ....."All BMW cars come ConnectedDrive Services for 3 years and 90 days.
