I drive J3-J5 several times a week and I am trying to find out if there are cameras. I drive religiously at 70mph but often see folks going past at 80-90. Yesterday someone was pulled over for 90+ by an unmarked car. Anyhow, although I have nothing to worry about other than frustrated drivers going around me... are there cameras or what?

Thanks

Yes, the small ones hidden beside the gantry up rights for the length of the "smart" motorway, they're live.

Nothing after junction 4a though.

Considering the M3 is a performance car, I doubt it would have anything to do with speed cameras biggrin

Jokes aside, if the camera is yellow its active. Get a passenger to take a look at the hidden cameras, even they have yellow coverings on them. Only ones that aren't yellow AFAIK are the Tower Bridge cameras, as they managed to nab us doing 40 in a 30.

Someone with inside info will no doubt interject, but if the variable speed limit signs show NSL, then the cameras won't trigger below 100mph. But once they go to 60mph or lower, the threshholds are pretty tight. That stretch right the way down to the A303 exit is notorious for undercover cars though.

Tower bridge is now a 20mph zone. I'm not sure why exactly, given pedestrians are segregated with a physical barrier. There's an 18t limit on it, so the speed limit won't be down to axle loading restrictions.

People can be stupid, especially tourists, so maybe 20mph is a good idea. On the other hand, 30mph is needed because traffic is a bit stupid in that area now.

Nothing personal but pretty much everything you have said above and in this thread is wrong.

I'm not on the inside, but I can say with certainty that the cameras flash way under 100mph.
I set cruise at 77mph from the GPS and haven't yet been flashed, but have seen people flashed going slightly faster, certainly way less than 100 No idea if they got tickets of course.

Speed ticket dude GH13whatsit on here will give chapter and verse I'm sure.

i could but I'll pass other than to say the police chiefs have made their policy on thresholds public and it is the police who operate these systems.

Perhaps I should have written "I could but it would be futile as there is always some ar5e on the outside who knows better".

I do M3 everyday. The ones with yellow boxes are live and I think they may also be average speed cameras between the two and could be set at a limit of high 80s/90s.

Have seen them flash when people bolt past at 90mph+.

Especially the long straight before J4 turn off.

I don't think they're average speed cameras past the smart motorway bit.
