Been struggling to sleep for sometime now and starting to feel a bit stick in the morning when waking up, both lower back and shoulder.

Realised my mattress is a fair bit older than I thought it was, and I don't think it was even a good one back then either.

Having read some old threads, I am looking between getting one of the premier inn hypnos beds.
https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/why/sleep/buy-our...
Seems to have some good reviews, But downsides are the long wait time for delivery and no send backs etc. Also the guarantee is half what you would get buying a straight hypnos mattress, 5 years vs 10 years.
So other than taking some time in a premier inn, its a shot in the dark really.

The other most recommended seem to be johnryanbydesign, I think were also previously called something else. Seem to be a very helpful company, Have a 30/60 day send back guarantee if not gelling with it.
https://johnryanbydesign.co.uk/product/origins-com...

Was wondering if anyone had any advice/experience of the two or other options. Budget is around £500 mark, Not the 3k vispring malarkey.

Which top buy:

https://www.mattressonline.co.uk/Product/Sealy-Nos...

Bought one a few months ago and while pretty standard as mattresses go (no fancy foam shenanigans or spage age crap) it's a good mattress and I've not had a bad back since. Whereas the old one was a good 5-6 years old and dipped, giving me back and hip ache.

Get yourself down to a couple of shops and try them. We were going to get a Hypnos based purely on reviews but when we actually tried various matresses in a shop decided on a Kaymed Mighty Bed - never heard of them before but 6 months in and can't fault it.

i might have the same mattress as that.

When looking I was also drawn by the Premier inn Hypnos mattress but wanted to be more sure than they could help with.

I ended up with this Sealy mattress as it was on offer and felt good at the time, from a very helpful shop. I was comparing it to a Vispring in the same shop and there was little difference other than the price.

I would highly recommend it. Even at 10 year old its still one of the best mattress I've experienced.

Got a John Ryan one myself, lovely thing, very comfy. That's an Artisan 1500, cost a bit more than £500 though it is a zip & link super king.

Good company to deal with.

Mattress advice? Definitely get one. Bed frames without mattresses can be exceedingly uncomfortable...

Depends on your bed. A sprung mattress is best on a divan bed, and if you have a slatted frame you should consider memory foam.

I have the Emma mattress, it's firm memory foam and took getting used to but now I love it.

Part of me does wish I went for the Premier Inn Hypnos just because I love their beds.

And there's the nub, there's really no substitute for trying them out. I couldn't go latex as I sleep hot, for instance

Run pipes through it and fill your hot water tank nuts

NB MIne isn't solid foam, it has holes running through from top to bottom.

We’ve just bought a super king from Mammoth. It’s hybrid pocket sprung with medical foam. Cool to sleep in and super comfy, you can also get different firmness for left and right side which zips together. Cost us £1800 which is a lot but worth it as it’s so nice to sleep on.

I’ve just chucked out our old Tempur memory foam mattress which cost about the same 10 years ago. Hateful thing that was like sleeping on a sweaty sponge.

A bed / mattress is one of the most important things you will ever buy. I suffer with back trouble. After staying at a certain hotel when I woke up completely pain free, I felt compelled to strip the bed and look at the mattress. A visit to Savoir Beds followed and I’ve slept like a log ever since. One of the best things I’ve ever bought. In short, buy the best you can, you won’t regret it.

Bought a John Lewis Natural Egyptian Cotton, made with various paddings , cotton, lambs wool, unicorn pubes, etc. Properly heavy to the point that even with 2 of us its hard to rotate! The removal guys also huffed and puffed moving it, lol.

Made by Spink and Edgar, apparently. Was £1100.

Just noticed this bad boy, W and indeed TF

The problem is that the more layers of exotic nonsense and unicorn pubes you have in it, the more there is to subside. Lovely for a few weeks or months, then it's hammock time...

So true. Most people would spend a couple of 1000 on a sofa, yet spend a few hundred on something you lay on for 7-8 hours per day.

The on!y downside to a good matress is that most hotel beds seem like cheap crap in comparison.

Memory foam beds are a very personal choice - people tend to love them or hate them. I don’t like them - too hot and they tend to fix me in one position which makes me ache.

Premier Inn beds are OK - I stay in them a lot, but if you think they are the epitome of comfort you’ve never had a really good bed.

Personally I think good quality pocket sprung mattresses are best. I have a 2500 spring Millbrook with a thin layer of latex foam in the comfort layer. I prefer a little bit of initial give in the comfort layer but firm springs below. It’s well over 10 years old now and I should probably replace it but it’s still very comfortable.

We also have a John Ryan Origins Pocket 1500 but the firm 2000 spring version. It’s incredibly firm - the comfort layer is very tightly packed. It’s very well made and the service is excellent, but it needed a squishy topper to make it really comfortable although they don’t hide that recommendation on their website.
