Quick question. Apologies if this has been done to death, but couldn't find the answer in a search.
The speed cameras on the M25, are they always on, or only when a variable limit is in force?
Thanks
I think the ones that are on are now on at any speed but statistically it seems they are not all on all the time. They (as in the new(er) ones) do also seem to go into tilt mode and flash at every car that passes. The speed cameras on the M25, are they always on, or only when a variable limit is in force?
Thanks

I think they have to be treated as 'on all the time', but at NSL, the trigger limit seems to be set somewhere above 78mph. How much above 78 I have not been brave enough to try, but I go through dozens of them every week without prosecution...so far...
This is what I am hoping re trigger limit. Rarely drive the M25 but was on it during the Christmas period. Didn't think about what the cameras do or don't do until it was possibly too late, and was cruising at my usual motorway speed of 80 - indicated. As this is actually under 75 in my car means I may be ok, but I could also have lost my licence in one journey from Kent to the M4!!

You'll be fine and wont receive anything in the post.

The HADECs are always on (pair of yellow boxes bolted to the side of the gantries). The variable speed cameras over the gantries are only active when there is a speed restriction showing.
No, the signs displaying the VSL are on the gantries but the cameras on the gantries are no longer live. It's all HADECS3s now (NSL or VSL) and even some of them still aren't live.Dr Doofenshmirtz said:
This is why pretty much nobody goes over 80 on the M25 any more.
Oh really?

My mate was flashed, by a camera, at 44 in a 40 on the M25 last night. Apparently ALL the cameras on the M25 and M1 are live and under normal circumstances set to 72 with an auto ticket generating system. Will update the post if he gets a ticket in the post.
My mate and apparently in a 2 line post
If "Your Mate" wants to hedge their bets (Literally) I will give them 5-1 on a £20 bet that they don't get done for 44 or under in a 40. If they do they can use their winnings to pay the ticket.

My mate got vaporised by a Klingon spaceship for doing 73 on the M25 - honestMy take it that the HADECS are on but possibly set around +100 but the gantry ones are live only (matbe) when restricted speed is in place. Having done plenty of airport runs to Heathrow from Kent to get early flights. When the stupid things were on 40mph limits at 0430 in the morning I would immediately pull into the inside lane to do 40 mph and was regularly passed by lorries (as well as every other Tom Dick and Harry). With that in mind I do struggle at the point of them.
I should add that it has been over a year since my regular runs to Heathrow but a solicitor friend of mine said that the Clackett Lane cameras were notorious for dishing out fines to speeders.
