My lad is after one, but being a teenager, when you ask him hes all grunty and shoulder shrugging
how does the scheme work?

Do you have to find the apprenticeship first?,
Or do you have to approach the training provider?
thanks in advance.

If you approach a training provider, a company direct or one of the online apprenticeship finders like NAVMS or GetMyFirstJob then he should be able to get onto the ladder and they will find him a job as well as sort the apprenticeship.

Basically he will be employed on an apprentice's wage and train while he works with 20% off the job learning (during working hours)

They will support any extra maths/english learning needed

Where in the country are you, I may be able to put you in touch with a learning provider........

Also what type of apprenticeship are they considering?

They could go for a trade- joiner, spark, plumber. But depends on grades/ education, they may want to consider looking at- quantity surveying or construction management type 'apprenticeships'.

I ended up working as a trainee QS, went to university part time (2 days a week during term time) and worked full time with the construction firm the rest of the time. 5 years later I have 5 years QS experience and degree, no student debt and a bit of experience in the construction industry.
