Chimaera Clubman?
Discussion
I'm not sure whether to just sigh, or put the auctioneers right. The 'clubman' edition is obviously export only. No such UK model existed. Going through Historics on 3rd March:

It may have 3k miles on it but nobody put the peeled lower dash right. The aftermarket switches (fitted for Japan market maybe?) look terrible. And no doubt the tyres will be 23 yrs old too.
An example of a very low mileage car probably being trouble. £17k + ??

Once again one of the famous low mileage Japan cars emerge.
I sat in that here in Cyprus when it was still next to the other low mileage one, which is blue at a dealers garage.
He had imported both of them from Japan for someone who in the end didn't take them a few years earlier, and they sat in his warehouse unregistered for years. A change in the cost of registration of imported cars meant that they were uneconomical to register and they ended up just sitting there until eventually he decided to bite the bullet and pay for them to be shipped to the UK to offload them.
For some reason they keep popping up for sale here and there and I am wondering why people aren't holding on to them.
This one, like the other one had about 2k miles on it when it was here and at the time I sat in it, the interior did look dusty, and the carpet and trim had all peeled off, due to the heat out here.
If it was not for the huge back tax and registration costs, I would have bought one of them.

I saw this at the sellers warehouse in Virginia Waters last week. I was looking at something else and this was parked up.
Just a standard 400 with the export differences as expected. Nice enough but will want the usual work to get it back on the road and fingers crossed regarding rubber seals and any other perishables.

I was looking at a project cerb that they have that was quite cheap but I am put off now as headroom is appalling.
I was still looking at other projects until this afternoon when an offer was excepted on a different type of project!

I know, I started the thread. I probably didn't ask properly.
The previous contributor was from New Zealand and has a 'Clubman' edition and I was wondering if he knew what these went for in Japan, or New Zealand for that matter. Has the importer got it very cheap in Japan? Or maybe he'll lose his shirt having already paid big money for it.

I remember only a couple of years ago an ex pat who lives in Japan had one for about a year, he used to post on here for a time. I seem to remember him saying they were’nt worth much over there, lack of a support network can’t help. Surely this car is deemed a show piece as who would want to do loads of miles in it, there’s plenty out there that can do that already so in view of its rarity and low miles wouldn’t you just want to make it look brand new and show it off via a car trailer!
Lovely colour too.

I agree ! plenty of people will say "why did you buy it if you don' drive it?" .. but a car's value can lie in its lack of use, it's not like there's not plenty of other chimaeras to choose from and use if you want something to do big miles in.Lovely colour too.
Buy it, keep it, show it .. but keep it low miles and immaculate, that's where its value is.
