Forum Activity?
Discussion
Imagination or has the volume of posts been gradually decreasing as we move farther in time from the previous Gaydon gen? Years ago, there was a lot of excitement about the new DB9/DBS/Vantage/V12V models, a lot of buyers and a lot of posters. Now, very, very few threads about the new gen, and total posts going down seemingly every day. It'd be interesting to see a plot of posts by year along with car sales (or registrations) by year to see the degree of correlation.
Any way, it is a disappointment to see the downturn in forum activity.

In regard of the lack of activity on PH relating to the 2nd century cars, in the case of the Vantage, if we cut straight to the point, it's not a very much liked car (on this forum specifically). The forum's not representative of the reception the car has had globally, but it's certainly a factor in putting people off showing their newly acquired car when they've read many pages about what sort of fish the front of it looks like, and the dislike of its power plant. Personally I love the new Vantage, and I'm trying desperately hard to have one by the end of the year, but PH isn't the place to talk about it or share photos.
What others think shouldn't really matter, and it shouldn't influence someone's purchasing decision, but forums at their best are there to share positive experiences about great cars. Put simply, few have migrated to a 2nd century car, and fewer still share their experiences when they have. It's a crying shame, as there's few places left on the internet to talk about new Vantages, DB11's, DBSS', mid-engine Astons etc.
Perhaps in time this will change, and I hope it does. The marque are building some outstanding cars now, that are more than just pretty sports cars

The activity comes and goes. As said mentioned above the Facebook group seems to be growing rapidly
And id hope that come Summer there will be more events
With regard to the second century cars I can only agree with the above. Lots of people have the car but you would need a thicker skin than I have to want to post about it on here.
The other issue is that most of the posters on here are those who have bought their cars used (perhaps when values have allowed them to become more “mainstream” like the older Vantages. So I’d hope that as the new cars drop in value and fall into second/third ownership we might see more posters on here
No idea about BR. But I guess as soon as they stopped paying PH then the latter had no desire to keep the thread up (offering BR lots of free advertising).

Hi Steve,
Hope alls well over that side of the pond and that your all fit and well.
It's simple whats happened if you think about it........
It all went pear when Tony Hall rocked up in a new Vanquish.......
...................
And now with my sensible head back on I agree with Rob entirely, but come summer maybe things will pick up and a few threads and pictures
will start to re-appear.
Well, lets hope so as it has got a bit dull around here of late with too many former posters myself included just lurking rather than contributing.
What ever happened to the BRA'S,only Nick seems to be around these days and what ever happened to the Friday night wine induced brawls....
With regard to BR maybe they'll reappear one day or maybe even another independent will step up to the plate with a sponsored thread offering
much needed help, support and technical advice...............

From things a few people have said, the pointless sniping at times on here also makes some people less inclined to contribute (see some of today's responses to someone asking about BR as an example). Maybe the same thing happens on FB, but is more easily lost - it's a shame but generally I'd say the FB forums seem more consistently friendly.
Never experienced “the good old days” but this forum is useful and good. Usual forum banter and sniping at times but nothing excessive.
Regarding activity, it’s not at all bad. Perhaps owners of DB11 and newer cars aren’t all inclined to use forums and simply own and drive their steads? We’ll probably see more chat around DBSS and Vantage when (a) there are more of them on the road, and (b) they tend to be more enthusiast / driver-orientated cars than DB11 or forthcoming SUV. Nothing wrong with any of them, mind...

Excellent post Jon. I’ve said this before, 2nd Century Car threads inevitably spiral into slanging matches centred around looks and power plant. I’m convinced (in fact I know) that there are New Vantage owners out there that were, previously, active forum members but have withdrawn, stating the forum simply isn’t the place to be anymore. Being repeatedly told, directly or indirectly, that your new car, (for which you may be realising a life long dream), is butt ugly and has a sWhat others think shouldn't really matter, and it shouldn't influence someone's purchasing decision, but forums at their best are there to share positive experiences about great cars. To counter that, there appear to be a bunch of open and honest new members who are simply after some information on events and tech assistance, so all’s not lost and I’m sure they will become the next bunch of cynical old farts, like some of us have become. Given time. There may be an argument that some long term members have seen and read a lot of it before, and simply can’t wade through another insurance thread.
Keep contributing though, it doesn’t fall on deaf ears, trust me.
Agree Binz. I've become a lurker myself. Maybe the traditional AM look has gone and things have changed too much for us old farts!
When I came on this and the AMOC forums over seven years ago they were great places to be.
We had a lot of good nights out and drives (I don't know if that is still going on but I haven't noticed it lately).
The AMOC forum went through a bad time (self inflicted) but it is going from strength to strength at the moment and appears to be getting more posts than here.
Probably these things go in cycles and the fun will return.

I must admit I have a couple of models that some people on here have been vocal about - I just removed my 'garage' and ignore those posts which I am sure others do as well - but still find interesting items on here. If we all had the same opinions the world would be boring, and I would much rather we had the opportunity for free speech than not.
Is it just the AM part of PH or is it the same across other parts of the forum?
I ask as I was just looking at the car gurus site (https://www.cargurus.com/) and https://www.cargurus.co.uk/ who are the guys who bought PH and I couldn't find a forum at all ....
