How to fix this? Engine cover
Discussion
Hi all,
Just looking for some advice how best to fix this engine cover fitting. It should look like this:

But is like this:

Basically the thread is ruined where it has been previously pulled off (must have got stuck near the end of the thread). It’s a big metal pipe that is attached seemingly to the engine block. The rubber hoses run from this metal pipe to the coolant reservoir.
I want to fix it purely because at a certain low rev range the clattery diesel harmonics combined with the loose cover on that side cause a vibration that can be heard in the cabin. This has been partially fixed with a piece of sponge but would like to fix it properly. There are two other usable fixings so the cover is going nowhere.
Can I get some kind of threaded insert to put in the hole and then screw into that? Or is there a better way of going about this?
For info my DIY skills are adequate for general servicing but I’ve yet to be brave enough to go further.
Cheers
Chris
