Has anybody got/used one of these ? Seem like a good idea as they seem to keep their charge for ages and you can store in the glove box. You can also charge phones/laptops so many uses.

Any recommendations ?

I bought one of the larger ones a couple of years ago. Large as in the size of a thick paperback book.

So far it's started (without the slightest issue):

6.0 litre V12
Two different 2.4 litre diesel I5s
4.2 litre V8
2.3 litre I5 petrol

I was stunned at the ease with which it turned over a relatively high compression V12 running in sludge oil. Highly recommended.

Tougher to chose a brand, they seem to come and go on Amazon.

ETA - a friend bought a cheap little one and has used it a couple of times to boost a 2003 Volvo T5 engine. It's worth keepign one in the car and charging it ever few months.

Got this one from Costco.

Caterham battery fairly marginal at the best of times, so started that a couple of times, also started the Saab 9-5 hot a couple of times, once when it hadn't started for around 6 months. The battery on the Saab was complete toast as well, charged out for 12 hours before trying it, nothing, clipped on this thing and started straight up, took about 20 seconds of cranking too.

I bought a pocket sized one that lives in the boot of the car & has started everything I have tried it with.
Much to the amazement of a couple of the car owners due to the size of the booster pack.

No issues with it starting a 6 litre V8 or a 2.1 litre diesel. Both turn over surprisingly quickly off the jump pack and a few mechanic friends have been genuinely amazed it worked at all, let alone so well.

Ok, sound like a good idea then. Actually need it for a boat and to recharge stuff whilst onboard but will also come in handy for the car.
