I'll certainly be going to see this. Looks good.

Slightly bothered by the idea of someone falling off of an orbiting space station and tumbling to earth (as seen in that trailer) but it looks exciting.

There's been nothing worth going to the cinema for since Endgame so hopefully this will be decent. Looks a bit too Michael Bay-ish.

Looks more like a space elevator to me?

Far From Home, Toy Story 4, Midsommar, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood?

I kinda agree though, a few films aside it's been a shocking year.

What a load of tosh this was.

Space film trying to masquerade as something far more deep and meaningful.

Had so much promise but totally failed at, well, everything really.

Although it was highly amusing that aftwerwards my missus confessed she'd thought the research subjects were aliens. rofl Somehow she'd missed the dialogue explaining what the ship was!

Toy Story 4 was a film that didn't need to be made. As good as it was, it wasn't as good as the 3 proceeding it.

The trailer for this put me off. We see an old Tommy Lee Jones and his grown up son. With the effect of time on the human body out in space, Tommy Lee Jones shouldn't have aged that much while Brad Pitt should've been closer to Tommy's age.

But that's my own problem, applying science to fiction.

But. Even the basic premise of the film doesn't stand up to any scrutiny.

  • A burst of energy, gets weaker the further away it is. It doesn't "get stronger as it nears earth". That's so fundamental that the whole story fails there in the first few minutes.
  • Just transmit a voice file, (we see them recording and sending voice messages, so it's not like that isn't a thing). Brad doesn't need to go in person to Mars.
  • If the antimatter is so dangerous should it escape. Blowing it up with a Nuke seems like pretty much the worst idea.
  • A nuke going off in space doesn't have much of a shock wave. It doesn't generate matter which could push the ship Brad was in back home. It's just the same matter, a bit angrier. With the antimatter as well...wouldn't that possibly have the reverse effect? Anyway...it's bks.

I wanted to see this with my eldest daughter.
Having listened to other peoples' reviews and that of Mayo & Kermode on BBC R5, I think I'll give it a miss!

I’d go along with your review, it really was a bit of a let down. Visually it was good though.

Boiled it down to: Don’t idolise absent parents & don’t bother travelling 12 billion miles to find them - it’s ultimately a waste of time.

What a turd of a film.

Wasn't the director claiming he wanted to make the most realistic space film ever? So why was gravity earth like on Mars and the Moon...

Saw it yesterday and it was a turd. Long drawn out story with no real substance.

Got half way through and found myself checking my phone to see how long it had left! Utter tripe.

Agreeing with most on here. Didnt enjoy it really.

What I liked? Camera work and most of the CGI was pretty good. Interesting ideas for a future earth, ie: space antennae, commercial space flight. Acting was good.

What I didnt like? Generally unlikeable characters who I didnt care about. Fairly weak story with some pointless plot points. Oppressive atmosphere throughout the film, almost like equilibrium but without anyone doing anything cool.

No desire to see it again.

Saw it in IMAX format this afternoon.

Complete and utter ste.

However, the film I saw the day before, "The Peanut Butter Falcon" was really good.

Gravity is an absolute masterpiece by comparison.

I'm trying to think up some sort of witty description of how bad this film is, Apocalypse Now in space directed by Michael Bay etc.. but anything I invent would actually be be miles better.

Just imagine watching a steaming turd on a plate cooling for 2 hours.

Not at all. For any deficiencies in story or characters it was compensated for by the visuals, especially at an IMAX. Which is why I went to see AA at an IMAX.

Waste of time and money that was!
