I am due to visit Singapore with my work for a conferenece at the end of October and am looking forward to it. Its always been a place of interest to me due to the culture, wealth and of course the technology.

As well as all the usual tourist places widely documented on the web, what places must i see/visit?

Atlas is my favourite bar in the world there and there afternoon tea is nice. If you love gin it's heaven as they have hundreds.
Marina bay sands does a banging tommahawk steak at the top. You have to order it in advance.

For the true Singapore experience just walk through any of the souless, largely empty, incredible expensive shopping malls and wonder at the pointlessness of it all.

After that, I like the Botanical Gardens with the little turtles.

Go to a Hawker Centre for the local food experience - they're cheap too!

For the proper Singapore experience, one must queue in a taxi at the Malaysian border for about 3 hours on a Friday afternoon.

Just come back myself.

Satay by the Bay, round from the two domes - I forget the name of the little satay bar but it is orange.
Get an MRT card for 12dollars.
The two bio domes and gardens (done in a morning)
Altitude bar is good on Wed, Fri and Sat. Quite western.
Orchard is good on the booze
I zipped up the Marina Bay Hotel, had a mooch, came straight back down.

Visit the merlion, and the zoo is pretty good, they have white Tigers

I had one as the locals do. Condensed milk and a st ton of sugar. Bloody hell....

This. Singa is pretty dull to be honest.

Gardens By The Bay, it's pretty impressive and a nice walk, especially the indoor areas. Can also combine with the look at Marina Bay Sands, but it's really just a vastly over-rated hotel attached to a casino and expensive shopping mall.

Level 33 in MBFC Tower 2 provides the best views of the Marina area by far. Don't waste money going to the top of MBS, spend it on beer at Level 33.

Singapore National Gallery is very good too

Couple of the better bars are the Manhattan (in the Regent Hotel) and Jigger & Pony.

Tanjong Pagar is a good area to visit for trendy bars and restaurants.

It’s just a huge expanse of concrete, built and serviced by legalized slavery unfortunately.
And it’s very expensive too.

I've been to Singapore at least 5 times over the past year or so and have to say I agree with those saying it's a bit soulless and, well, crap.

Orchard tower might be worth a shot though, as mentioned. biggrin
