Asda CYO pizza bases
Discussion
Being having a CYO Asda pizza fortnightly for a while, my go too is the 14 inch deep pan, but for a few week now the deep pan has shrunk to almost the width of a thin and crispy, a few month back the deep pan were super thick, anyone else noticed this? Or is it just my local, also they don't seem to be as generous with the toppings, is all this another showcase of cost cutting that will come back to bite them as let's be honest CYO pizza is one of Asdas most popular items
Never been a fan of ASDA pizza counter. The Sainsburys pizza counter on the other hand was brilliant.
Two sizes, Two different bases, unlimited toppings, £1 if you wanted it cooked instore.
Then one day some idiot at Sainsburys HQ decided to get rid of the mozzarella balls, then decided that instead of having deep base and thin base was too complicated, they would get rid of them both and introduce one sour dough base.
Had it once and never again. They had a great concept going but decided to ruin it.

Holy cow! Yes I remember the amazing deep pan base, was spiffing, the sour dough base one is indeed horrid, thin and has a strange taste and colour, my two local big Sainsbury's always have loads left and no one seems to visit the counter anymore, wish Morrisons did a deep pan in the 14 inch size, they do one in the 10 inch but alas far too small for this human. I haven't been for a few years but the Asda stuffed crust, extra cheese, meats and chilli oil was the most disgustingly gluttonously delicious pizza ever. Don't tell me they've changed it!
Stuffed crust is still unholy and amazing, that cheese string cheese ring beats any stuffed crust Big_Dan said:
We had one earlier in the week and it was stupidly deep pan - at least 2 - 3 inches. I actually thought it was too thick! Plenty of toppings though.
You lucky hoe, that's as thick my local used to do, I'm guessing supplier is cost cutting, pray tell what wonderful asda is your local please? love the asda pizza CYO stuff. favourite thing for me is pepperoni, onions and mushrooms, but sometimes i stick to ordinary pepperoni feast, american hot is nice too.I have a bad habit of adding extra cheese if i have any at home. ends up drowning the whole pizza, im trrying ot resist doing it now though.
ive always bought thin & crispy, so can't really comment on the deep pan much. i hate the stonebaked ones (which is odd because i do like frozen pizzas that are stonebaked)...the crust tastes like you're eating a biscuit?

Asda does pizza deliveries in some areas now. Someone told me their pizzas from the kitchen are good.
£6 for a 16" Pizza.
surely they are just the same as the CYO pizzas?£6 for a 16" Pizza.
Just looking at Just Eat £6 for a 16" with all the toppings seems good value if they are decent. Reviews on Just Eat to read.
Asda's make your own are 14" bases that I assume are pre-made?

The takeaway ones are different (and SIGNIFICANTLY better), made in the cafe not the CYO bit at the back. Sold at £1.50 a slice too. Not all the cafes have them, but they’re good!
So the pizzas in their cafe on display aren't the same as the CYO ones? i've always dismissed them as i thought they were the same. but I might give them a go next time I want something quick/cheap. so the takeaway ones ARE the cafe ones? or different to the cafe ones. trying to google any information/pictures/reviews but having no luck

Exactly right. The cafe pizzas are like a good Dominos. They’re available to eat in by the slice, or takeaway by the slice or box. £1.50 a slice or £6 a box (6 slices) in deepest darkest Wales.so the takeaway ones ARE the cafe ones? or different to the cafe ones. trying to google any information/pictures/reviews but having no luck
I buy the CYOs when I'm in the mood/have the time to hang around. I have to say the quality varies depending on the competence or generosity of the person who makes your pizza.
My kids tend to prefer deep pan (last time we were given stuffed crust bases by mistake which were even nicer). My favorite toppings are
- peppers
- jalapeno peppers
- red onions
- chilli cheese
- extra cheese
- mozzarella slices
- drizzle of chilli oil
Can't complian at £2.60 tbh. However, as I mentioned above, it does depend on the skill of the person making the pizza. On occasion the toppings have been sparse to put it mildy.
