'Brabham' documentary trailer | Time For Tea?

The story of Australia's first F1 champ is coming to the big screen - here's your first look

What a great time it is to like films and cars: we have Le Mans '66 (Ford v Ferrari) on the way next month, two John DeLorean films are imminent and the penultimate Fast & Furious is in production. Alright, those first few might be more eagerly anticipated, but now there's one more to add to that list, with 'Brabham' having just been premiered at the Brisbane International Film Festival.

While we're unsure yet of a wider release, the trailer will surely appeal to motorsport nuts over here. Not only is it crammed full of historic Grand Prix footage, various Coopers and his later eponymous racers, there's also the story of Jack Brabham off the track. With interviews from Jackie Stewart, Mark Webber, Bernie Ecclestone, Mark Webber and others, it promises to deliver the full story of an enigmatic racing driver.

There's more, too, the story brought up to date with David Brabham's exploits building the new BT62. There's sufficient material in this two-minute trailer, basically, to make Brabham seem well worth watching, backed up by a review in Australian media that's called it a "brilliant piece of film-making". We're told to expect extra promotion for Brabham around the Australian Grand Prix next March, which seems a way off now, but hopefully that means enough traction can be gained for a wider release, or at least a place on a streaming service. After all, there can be no such thing as too many car films, can there?

To answer the question posed, no we can’t have too many car films.

It’s especially good to see a number of recent efforts about times from which first-hand accounts and memories are quickly dying away.

Good luck to whoever is behind this one, hopefully the publicity around the Aussie GP in March will see it get a wider release.
