Just bought this White 5.00 note

I have a funny feeling it is a ringer as i have never seen one with these two vertical lines

As it was an Ebay purchase. i am on reasonably good ground for a refund

What do the experts on notes think?

Not a collector but I have just looked through a book called Collectors Banknotes by the Bank of England, no mention of the black lines.

Does it have the metal thread running through the paper?

I don't collect old currency but looking at images on Google of 1952 white £5 notes I reckon that yours isn't an original one.

On yours the images aren't crisp enough, the lines on yours are not on others, and the printing is a bit vague with lines missing. There should also be a background image behind the writing, like a water mark.

Could the lines not be like the old cheque lines, 2 lines means it can only be paid into a bank. i.e you cant swap it for another note of the same value. Maybe it was paid to a small bank, they drew the lines on and never got round to sending it to the BOE?

Just an update the PC has just come back from the hospital.

NEVER having seen a real 5.00 note ,well once and that was back in 1958!! had no idea at all.

The ad never mentioned copy /photstat just 5.00 note in good condition.
So i put in a bid for 65.00 and got it.
Once it arrived the old spidey senses got going, and after a few phone calls realised i had been sold a wrong un

Luckily ebay/paypal is on the buyers side so i sent a rejection on the grounds'not as described'
Got a reply from ebay within 30mins getting the ok to return it

All is not lost!!

Next time i will go via a dealer lesson learned
