it pretty much means this. although it genearlly means having a greater knowledge or awareness of something than before. for the most part its someone who's become pretensious and a SJW (social justice warrior). a person who has looked into the meat industry and decided to become vegan could be seen as woke. but only if they show off about it/seem greater than others.
Given that it's used in situations such as "stay woke" which means "stay aware", it should arguably be "awoken" rather than "woken". However it's American, so all bets are off gramatically anyway.
It's also hardly a "millennial" thing, it has its roots in the 60s. It's just a term, like so many others, that has over time been exported from American to the rest of the English speaking world.
