Battery OK?

Is there a click when you turn the key to start?

Could be the starter solenoid is stuck, or your starter has just died. Also the wiring to the starter needs checked.

Never really looked round a Trafic, other than the Jacques Tati move.

We really need a lot more information than that to stand a chance.

Turned the engine off & then came to start...…….. Is there a minute, an hour, a day or a month in between those events?

Was the stereo in use?

Were you charging your mobile from it?

Were the lights left on?

etc. etc. etc.

NOTHING...…. Does that mean no lights on the dash at all, engine didn't start, engine didn't turn over, you couldn't turn the key?

Nothing at all means nothing at all - assuming the OP is telling us the truth it’s battery or ignition switch (or possibly but significantly less likely the ECU relay)

Test battery
Test ignition switch
Test ecu relay.

1 hour absolute tops

when i turn on the ignition to start there is nothing only dash lights, will not start with a jump but will start when towed , i have removed both switches on the clutch as there is a safety device tha you have to press the clutch to start.

Illuminated dash mean it’s getting power and lighting up so you have battery.

Do You have a multimeter? Check battery voltage.

Confirm battery voltage is Getting to the starter

When did you last check earthing points?

Reading through again you say it will bump but it won’t jump - needs a new starter.

Many are "charged" from being in the ignition with the engine running, just a thought, don't know if yours is.

E-bmw means, when you put the key in the ignition the barrel charges the key or certain cars.

Diagnostics should show if the key is recognised, try the second key if you have it.

It's unlikely to be the transponder; much more likely to be the receiver, or ring-antenna or whatever Renault call it - i.e. the bit surrounding the ignition lock which recognises the key.

You don't have multiple car keys on your keyring do you? Sometimes the receiver gets confused if it can see more than one transponder.

Sounds to me like you bought a cheap starter motor, spend a bit more money on a decent one.
