Porsche 911 gets some air | Pic of the Week

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a Porsche PR stunt!

While everyone else was slipping and sliding around on the Zell Am See ice last week, Porsche’s new 911 found an altogether more direct way to make an entrance. Arriving suspended beneath a helicopter, a Racing Yellow example of the £83,000 992 made for an epic photo op at the very least. Having been unveiled in LA late last year, the stunt marked the base model’s first ever non-motor show appearance in quite some style.

It was necessary, Porsche says, not just to cause a stir, but to place the 385hp machine on its designated perch at the luxurious ArietAlm, which sits at an altitude of 1,408 metres and offers panoramic views over Zell Am See and its frozen lake below.

With four wheels firmly on the ground, Dan got to grips with the car just last month. “More capable than any 911 before it” he called it, whilst wondering whether the entry-level machine could in fact be the sweet spot in the current 992 range. For now, though, we needn’t worry about questions as significant as that, simply download our Pic of the Week and behold it in all its snow-capped splendour.

Am I the only one who sees the irony of this ?

Car manufacturer who makes fast sports car with higher than average emissions, hires a helicopter to fly said car across the mountains where there is snow etc which is rapidly disappearing around the globe due to global warming all in the name of PR....

Oh dear....

No, I thought it too, but I’ve learned that a significant percentage of people don’t care in the slightest - until it’s in their back yard. Sad times, I thought our species was intelligent once.

The 992 at least looks great in yellow. I look forward to an electric 911, and the dinosaurs spitting feathers over it :-D

The most impressive thing about that photo is that what looks like a relatively small helicopter can lift a 911.

to my very very inexpert eye It looks like a UH-1, though I assume it is not?
