The Star Inn in Harome.
The Pipe and Glass in South Dalton.
Both outstanding. The head chef at the Pipe and Glass trained under the head chef at the Star Inn.
The Durham Ox near York.
The star inn is one of my customers, I do all his premises! Absolutely outstanding in every aspect, he used to have the pheasant hotel round the corner but it’s with his ex wife now, The Pipe and Glass in South Dalton.

Star in the City is also quite good but a simpler experience.
My local when I lived in the Lake District. Fab food and own brewery: https://www.kirkstile.com
Stayed there since - en route when travelling south.

We found this little place a couple of years ago: super-rural, in the middle of the South Downs national park.
They've managed the rare feat of combining the pub the locals use with a fantastic 'restaurant and rooms' business.

I’ll regret posting this as I like to drop in without booking for Sunday lunch and struggle to get a table!

Tempest Arms at Elslack is very nice.https://tempestarms.co.uk/
The Wheatley Arms in Ben Rhydding is part of the same chain and also nice.
Both more "pubs" than my previous suggestions.
One of my locals, The Black Horse in Fulmer...

Very close to Pinewood Studios, so good for Brad Pitt spotting if that’s your thing.
Not cheap, but excellent food.

Lovely rooms, great food although I haven’t been that way for about 5 years.
