Booked for the lakes in late September.

Will go to the Gin distillery as my wife loves the gin.

However we have no plans apart from that, staying at the Daffodil on Grasmere.

Will need a great Sunday lunch, a decent dinner restaurant (decent relaxed dining happy to go Michelin star but I don't want to wear a jacket) and any top notch cafes/bakeries as my wife is big into baking! I really like my beer is there any decent breweries up there?

Pubs for lunch would be good also, nice cosy atmosphere preferred.

I can recommend the Forestside Hotel for Michelin starred dinner, just up the road from the Daffodil.

If you're headed to the Distillery-assume it's the Lakes Distillery nr Basenthwaite. There's a pub close by called the Wheatsheaf Inn I'd recommend over the distillery for lunch. As you're out that way take a look at the Lingholm kitchen. As part of the Lingholm estate they do lunch, coffees and cakes. The estate has really nice grounds and a walled garden. Access to Derwentwater seems to have been cut off due to COVID strangely. The estate has connections to Beatrix Potter.

Calling into Keswick would also make sense, for other dinning options take a look at Mizu in the Ladore Falls hotels if you likes sushi/Asian.

Back in Grasmere Tweedies has a very good selection of ales.

yes the Flying Pig is good, nothing wrong with the food and good value for money

Pity they're only doing takeaway at the moment but Steam Bistro in Coniston is well-liked by locals and visitors alike.

Gin Distillery - do you mean Lakes Distillery? Their Vodka was voted #1 in the world last year.

As you're in Grasmere, The Jumble Room http://www.thejumbleroom.co.uk/ would have been an excellent choice, but again just doing takeaway currently. I understand why it's quite "close knit" inside and social distancing would be all but impossible.

in Ambleside https://www.oldstamphouse.com/ Ryan Blackburn is something of a celebrity, is Michelin starred and Ryan was on MasterChef professionals.

again in Ambleside Zeffirellis is worth a look or their sister restaurant Fellini's both are veggie, and attached to a cinema so you can make an evening of it if you can find something worth watching!

We had a stunning meal in Fellini’s in Ambleside last weekend. Really wasn’t expecting much just because it looks a bit tired from the outside, but we were both blown away with how good it was. Neither of us are veggie but that really didn’t matter.

You will need to book though.

for dinner I would recommend The Drunken Duck, also worth exploring Coniston if you haven't been before. The spiritual home of Donald Campbells Bluebird K7. The Sun/Black Bull have photos up all over of this, Coniston Lake Cruise if operating. The Ruskin Museum also worth a visit if open yet. A hike up The Old Man of Coniston is also a pleasant enough walk starting and ending at The Sun.

https://www.lakelandmotormuseum.co.uk/ well worth a visit.
Interesting TVR there.

Being vegetarian we also love Zeffirellis and Fellinis , they're arguably the best vegetarian restaurants in the UK.

Having returned from a week in the Lakes last week, I'd recommend booking your evening meals well in advance, especially Mon - Wed.
Some restaurants in Keswick were fully booked two weeks in advance.

Great thanks

Any specific recommendations?

Surely you can't go to the Lakes without donning your walking boots and taking in a hill/mountain.

If you want something which is relatively easy with great views, do Catbells.

Not really as anywhere we really wanted to try was fully booked.
Probably our best meal was at Merienda - their menu is a bit different to the regular pub-style fare.

We were there with our dog so that also placed a restriction on us, although we did leave her in the cottage a couple of evenings.

We got the ferry across Derwent and did Catbells on the first day.
Parking near Catbells is dodgy and the council like to ticket anyone on single while lines.

Definitely visit Coniston.

Coniston Brewery have some great beers which are sold in the local pubs.

Black Bull has excellent proper pub grub.

Crown Inn has some excellent gins and a very knowlegable owner.

Check out the Crafty Baa in Windermere. Huge selection of beers/lagers/IPA etc.. from all over the world. However it's very small so may not be easy to get in with restrictions.
