Suzuki Jimny (2 stroke triple bwaaaaaaap!)
Discussion
Apparently I haven't started a thread on this car yet...
My taste in cars is, some may say, a little bit odd. Having had a 2016 Suzuki Alto works for a few years I felt the need to look for another car. I had always fancied the SJ shape Jimny. As I'm sure most of you are well aware, trying to find a good one of these in the UK is an almost impossible task. Most sellers advertising absolutely rusty heaps as "mint" and "the best I've seen in years mate, will sail through another MOT"
So I turned to the Japanese Auctions to look for an SJ in 1.0 or 1.3... until I noticed the Kei spec ones are more common and a little bit cheaper. Most of these are in the 550cc class with the Suzuki 4 stroke F5A engine. On a random day of browsing, I noticed something called an SJ30 popped up in amongst all the JA71s and that's when I noticed the 2 stroke.
Clearly, the next thing to do is go to YouTube and see how they sound. The first video I can across, by apioinc was called edit: here's the link the characters didn't show
So anyways, looked at what prices these sold for, and set myself a tough budget of ¥400,000. I missed out on a couple of REALLY nice ones, which was a pity but you can't win them all! In April a little beige one popped up, floor was "dirty" and some other bits and bobs - all cosmetic work mainly. I let it pass through the auction and it went unsold. When it popped up the following week, stuck in a cheeky bid just above the reserve and won it.
Couple of stats:
28hp @ 4500
40lbft @ 2500 (54Nm)
80kmh top speed
Pretty much no other notable spec!
I was slightly nervous, however I've ironed out almost all the niggles. Removing the ridiculous size 7.00x16 cross ply TUBELESS, yes you read that right, and fitted tubed 6x16 NDMS bar grips as it was intended. Removed the shackle lift kit. Fitted a fog light and a beacon, an old Grundig radio with External tape deck and a new roof (which feckin leaks!!)
Not sure what my plans are with it yet. Here's a picture of how it sits now.

Did I read that correctly, a two stroke Jimny, I'm in?!
Does it smell lovely like two stroke bikes did in the 80's & 90's?
Yup! It's got a little bit of tuning potential too, another 10-15hp would make it easier to drive Does it smell lovely like two stroke bikes did in the 80's & 90's?
It used to smell like that when I first got it. Doesn't smell like that since I put Gulf Syntrac 2T in it though. The original Suzuki CCIS oil smells like the Castrol mix. Suzuki don't sell the CCIS in the UK anymore sadly

Amazing! I’m thinking it would easily take the 250 two stroke from the Suzuki rgv 250? 62Bhp
I've not split this engine, but from what I've seen online, it's almost internally identical to the Suzuki GT550 engine.I love the revs, but I'd be scared to lose all (all 40lbft of it lol) the torque it's got at 2500rpm.
Interesting car, OP!
That engine in a Jimny?
"Smokin' !"

Timely.... I got a 27 year old RGV 250 running last week. It belongs to a mate who never parts with his bikes. He's owned it from new and it hadn't run for 10 years, until last Wednesday! That engine in a Jimny?

3 cylinder 2 stroke
What happened to the Wartburg Knight?
Ohh yeah, forgot about those! What happened to the Wartburg Knight?
Don't they have a freewheel clutch because they run premix fuel?
Saab was a 3 cylinder 2 stroke as well from memory, someone a few miles up the road from me used to have one of those around 20 years ago
This is way less smokey with the oil injection, once it's warm theres no puffin at all.

Good shout, dropping to 28lbft and it’s maximum power is coming at 11,000rpm.I love the revs, but I'd be scared to lose all (all 40lbft of it lol) the torque it's got at 2500rpm.
Would sound even crazier than it already does
