Around J3 they’re now definitely working - I’ve just had notification through for exceeding the speed limit (86mph) at 7am on New Years Day. Doh.

320d is all you need

I always presume any speed camera is working! Does help.

Unlucky, hopefully you can get a course.

I didn’t know they were there!! But guilty as charged and hoping for a course. My father, I have sinned! (On an empty motorway at 7am on New Years Day laugh). And no, no rabbits or children were nearby.

Just tell them you were flying and not driving. You were performing an emergency landing, and that your aircraft (which looks like a car) has a stall speed of 85mph. They can hardly give you a fine for flying can they?

The mumsnet and “brake” lot will be along in a minute to tell you how you should be ashamed of yourself, put in stocks and paraded round your local town as punishment .... there probably wasn’t a child running around anywhere in the country at 7am on NYD, let alone on the M3. Such a shame the UK has come to this ......

Sorry I didn't realise you wanted advice. In that case, you should have been going faster so that you were long gone by the time the camera flashed!

It was hidden - hence trying to help out other PH’ers. And if you’re telling me you drive at 70mph everywhere you are either a) lying, b) more boring than 2020.

Appreciate the admittance of high level donutism.

I'll be keeping to limits doing this pandemic, there will be far less revenue available through speeding fines I'm sure.

In recent weeks, the M4 average speed past Reading was changed from 50 to 60 for a stretch
Last time I joined, set cruise to satnav 60, then noticed that the buggers have made it 50 again!
I may have gone between 2 cameras @ average 60
When I noticed my error I went 40ish between the next few cams
Hopefully the average speed start:finish point will work in my favour, ie not just between cams 1 & 2

Where is it? East or westbound? I didn't know any were hidden.
Cheers

Can you take an online speed awareness course for that speed?

This sort of thing? Hidden??

The actual camera gantries can be spotted by the 'limit' cameras before a 'live' gantry. The triple camera in this case on the left. These, I believe, take a shot of the limit in place when a speeding car triggers the main camera, so in your case it would've confirmed the NSL in place when you were photographed.

I'm not trying to be sanctimonious here and no, I don't drive at the limit everywhere, but as a motoring enthusiast I try and learn about all the methods used to catch speeding motorists in an effort to avoid being caught. It doesn't always work..... laugh

In what way was it hidden e.g. behind a gantry?

Same here, there are so many now though t's very easy to miss one like the OP has. That said 80+ real speed on any of the major motorways now is going to get you caught sooner or later. Cameras have popped up everywhere.

It was just as Ranger showed above. I’d stuck to all of the variable speed limit areas but didn’t realise about that one.

It was Northbound approaching the M25 turn off.

Oh, ok. They are on the M25 and M23 too. Very easy to spot though, as Ranger pointed out.

I’ll be more aware now for sure. I’m usually in the 70-80mph range anyway - just so happened this time the motorway was empty and my son needed a restroom break and I was hoping to make it to Heathrow without an extra pit stop. I’ll see what comes through the post.
