Unifi hardware - adoption issues after moving controller
Discussion
Wondering if anyone can help me with this...
I've got 3x Unifi switches and 3x Unifi APs at home.
When I first set them up, I installed the controller software on my Mac. All good.
A while later, I bought a Gen1 Cloud Key and followed the instructions to migrate everything from old controller to new.
Since then, all six devices have been stuck in the "migrating / adopting" loop. Nothing will get them to migrate to new, and it's won't let you cancel the migration or forget the devices from either new or old controller.
So now I'm stuck. I've looked at a bunch of forum posts online, which suggest resetting the devices to factory settings then using SSH to update the "set-inform" value to be the new controller. That makes no difference. Nor does setting it to be the old controller.
I've only tested the factory reset on one of the APs. That AP is now unusable, as neither controller will adopt it to then re-configure it.
Has anyone been through this and successfully resolved it?
Thanks

When you did the swap did you back up/download your config from the old controller, then restore on the new one?
Make sure you don't have both controllers running at the same time, if you're using the mac to access the new cloud key, the old controller may still be running in the background, unless you stop it or delete it.
Have you got an older back-up you can use to restore to the new controller?

Done this several times. Gen 1 Cloud Keys are really s
t by the way, they really need to be UPS backed because they tend to go bad if the power goes off.
Ideally you take a backup from the old controller and load it on the new one. This works fine. No need to change anything on either the switches or APs.
Normally with a single controller running a factory rest will sort it - press the button at boot until you get the flashing white light.
Per above - are both controllers running. I’d shut down the Mac one and then try again with the AP you’ve reset.

I know they have this reputation, however I have quite a few out there and have never had an issue. I did run a test, power cycled one a dozen times, it was fine.
OK, resolved.
I tried restoring a backup, but no difference. All devices still stuck in the migrating/adopting loop.
In order to break that, I had to click Forget at exactly the right time, which is when the device goes into Disconnected status momentarily. Too soon or too late and you get the "device busy" message.
Then, because I hadn't written down the SSH credentials I'd set, I had to reset each device to factory default, SSH onto it and set the "set-inform" option to point to the IP address of the controller. I could then adopt the devices.
What. A. Faff.

Can I hijack this with with a quick question? In the UniFi app on iPhone or on the controller web page is there anyway to have a chart or report of bandwidth use by device for the current moment?
The latest TestFlight beta version of the iOS app has real-time data. I’m not sure how quickly they will update the normal version. I’m also not sure offhand if they are still accepting new beta testers.
As a general note, the semi-official ubiquiti discord channel is a great resource for questions and people are usually pretty helpful.

Pleased you go it sorted. It usually is a simple process, so something did not go right. I suspect you had two controllers running. Have you now deleted the controller on your Mac?
I have deleted the old controller, although I didn't have both running at the same time.Output Flange said:
