Waiting Time for Windscreen Replacement
Discussion
More of a rant than anything.
Back windscreen in car shattered yesterday, went through insurance on line claim and given 9th June for a fitter to come and replace. Option given to decline if you require earlier appointment, declined and waited for call.
Roll on today and get call from Auto Glass saying screen is available and the earliest date to carry out the repair will now be 15th June.
Insurance Company are looking to see if they can get an earlier appointment arranged but have said I really should be putting a complaint in with Auto Glass before they would do doing anything.
Maybe missing something but would have thought my contract is with the insurance Company.
Really 2 weeks to carry out a windscreen replacement............... with screen available just no one available to fit screen. Understand COVID and everything else but really........................................
Rant over.

Call national windscreens or another company probably get you in quicker and they can still do it through your insurance
But it seems virtually all insurance companies only use auto glass direct
OK, talked with National Windscreens when going through insurance but they are only contracted for vans. They couldn't believe it was a 2 week wait for a replacement but said they couldn't fit to cars for the insurance company. But it seems virtually all insurance companies only use auto glass direct
I did laugh when Auto Glass said "we are not an emergency service"
I'd consider yourself lucky...
Mrs took car for her Covid vaccine May 28th and noticed a huge crack running from bottom nearside corner up to just past the top centre of windscreen. Tiny little stone chip managed to cause it! Slightest pothole or speedbump I suspect will destroy it.
Went direct to Auto Glass on advice from insurer... First available date was 18th June. That or nothing so had to take it. Car is now parked up.

That's not good either, sounds as though they cant cope with their workload Mrs took car for her Covid vaccine May 28th and noticed a huge crack running from bottom nearside corner up to just past the top centre of windscreen. What area are you in, I am Aberdeenshire.
Main problem is that this car isn't garaged and there aint any windscreen left, have sealed it up as best as I can but lucky the weather is good.

Nottinghamshire, I may have slightly understood if it was a piece of exotica but... Its a Ford S Max! Autoglass have 3 workshops in Nottinghamshire and 18th was still earliest date could get. What area are you in, I am Aberdeenshire.

We are fortunate the windscreen is still in place, wife refuses to drive it though it case it goes completely when she's in it (Don't blame her to be fair). Can imagine it's a PITA not having a screen in place at all and having to pick out all the lose bits of glass rattling around.

Nottingham Screenfit. Should be able to get you in within 48-72 hours
Unfortunately not an option. We are with Admiral (Yes, a mistake!) and if you don't use their approved repairer (Autoglass), the maximum they will pay out is just £50.
Quote we got to replace the windscreen and cover the cost ourselves was £883.

Admiral here as well, supposed to be back in touch today to see about pulling in the date.We are with Admiral (Yes, a mistake!) and if you don't use their approved repairer (Autoglass), the maximum they will pay out is just £50.

We will see if I hear from them.
the impatience of the modern world
I had damage to a windscreen last summer (2020) - it was finally fitted this spring (2021)
nothing to do with covid - simply that the rubber trim for a classic rangerover is no longer made, so it has to be sourced elsewhere...
this is PH - surely you simply drive one of your other cars until the windscreen is fixed

Or, as this is Pistonheads, get in touch with Glassman. I’m surprised he hasn’t popped up yet.

Is it a windscreen supply issue? My wife got a crack in her windscreen Monday afternoon, reported it via the Aviva app Monday evening and the guy was round at 930 Tuesday morning repairing it. Think he was with Autoglass.
No, screen is available, lack of available times in area fir fitting. I’m more frustrated in that the screen is not just cracked, there is no screen in place now as it shattered.
So now sitting outside with a tarpaulin protecting from elements and possible thieves

Would have hoped they may try and prioritise if there is no screen in place but no, same waiting time.
This could be something as simple as the guy/guys covering your your area/postcode/patch whatever has gone off sick, all on holiday/someones handed in their notice.
Maybe see what they can offer if you have it fitted somewhere else - ie just drive and meet them somewhere on another 'patch'.
If they were going to do it on your driveway, no reaon why they cant do it in a car park somewhere a couple of hours away from where you live.

Yip, I get that there could be various issues and if it was cracked I wouldn't be too concerned but the screen shattered and fell out, so no screen at all Maybe see what they can offer if you have it fitted somewhere else - ie just drive and meet them somewhere on another 'patch'.

Stupidly I didn't accept the 9th June and asked for a call back, received call back and next available date was 15th June. Doesn't allow you to book date and look at getting an earlier appointment.
Just frustrating more than anything, its not a massive deal apart from I don't like the car sitting for two weeks outside with no screen fitted, a tarpaulin to protect inside from the weather and more obvious to any opportunist thieves.
I thought the may prioritise if there is no screen left in the car though.

Laminated windscreens don't shatter ,unlike the toughened screens of the 1970s and older .We are fortunate the windscreen is still in place, wife refuses to drive it though it case it goes completely when she's in it (Don't blame her to be fair). I drove a car with a cracked screen for 3 years with no bother , wasn't an MOT fail either .
