The Dales, a good pub guide

Now then, I'm not sure this should be in Yorkshire or Food and Drink...
Autumn is the best time to enjoy the Dales, it's still warm, the traffic is light and the light can be incredible. I live in lower Nidderdale and try and get out and about as much as possible but there are still large parts of the Northern Dales I never get to.
There's nothing nicer than finding an excellent pub that serves a good pint... or a delicious lunch, has a great atmosphere or lovely view.
The Craven Arms in Appletreewick is a favourite of mine. Very traditional with excellent beer, it has a thatched crook barn at the rear or you can sit out front on the roadside, with a beautiful view and watch the world go by.
There's a nice walk down by the river, Parcevall Hall along the way and Troller's Gill just up the hill.
My second recommendation is The Green Dragon at Hardraw. Again a traditional pub with real character but with the added advantage of an incredible waterfall in the back garden.
Good to park in Hawes and build up a small thirst by wandering a mile or so through the countryside to the Green Dragon.
Winter will be here before we know it. Recommendations for good pubs in the Dales would be very welcome before the tops of snow poles is all there is to see.

Visited it a few months ago, in the summer (to drop off a few beers): LANDS END JOHN O GROATS (WALKING) LEJOG

Yep would second the Queens at Litton, lovely spot and a nice quiet dale compared to Wharfedale.
The other true Dales pub and little changed been the same family run for generations in the Falcon Inn at Arncliffe now featured on All Creatures Great and Small. Don't expect proper food but the beer is reasonable.
That reminds me the Kings Arms at Askrigg is also worth a visit. Great pub especially in the winter with a roaring fire and the setting for the local watering hole in the original All Creatures Great and Small the surgery 'Skeldale House' being virtually opposite across the road. Typically stunning Dales village having a great church too.

Been up to the Falcon a few times over the years (the original Emmerdale Woolpack!) used to serve beer straight out of the barrel.
Hes no longer there now but the old landlord was a bit of a character. Once there was a queue at the bar near closing time, he pointed someone out who for no reason he took a disliking too, and said ,'when we get to you we're closed'

Red Lion is good if they don't have a wedding on... service and quality takes a dive if they do (in my experience). Lovely location.
Cray is worth it just for a very nice drive.

I like The Old Hall just outside Grassington.
We had a week in Reeth in December 2020 (same lockdown tier as home so could go away).
Had an excellent meal at the CB Inn in Arkengarthdale. Not a pub but as a local brewery which does supply a number of pubs in the area and has a brewery tap / shop (check opening times!) is the Yorkshire Dales Brewery in Askrigg: https://yorkshiredalesbrewery.co.uk/
September 2021 we had a week in Barbon which is a lovely little village. I can't remember if we ate at the village pub (The Barbon Inn) or not. We certainly went in few drinks a few times and I remember having a great pint of TT Landlord. We walked to/from Kirby Lonsdale one day and the brewery in the town had good beer as well.
