Hello all

  • am a long suffering dad
  • I have a coat and shoe cupboard at home
  • Kids stand in it, in the dark and moan ‘daaaaad I can’t see my shoes’ hehe
  • I fitted a PiR LED ceiling fitting - works lovely
  • now one of the two little fkers (or the big one I’m married to) in my life can’t shake its muscle memory and keeps switching the bloody switch off!! All are denying it
So, what can I replace the switch with that maintains safety, is ‘compliant’ and stops me tearing my hair out?

Is a wago and a blanking plate acceptable, for example?

Might be better with a Wago as it'll fit in the back box better. laugh

I had a similar scenario, and tbh I just bought a little stick on switch cover from amazon.

Depends if you have "fancy" switches though I guess.

Gaffer tape the appropriate half of the switch so it’s stuck in the on position.

Just wire both common and L1 into the same terminal on the switch plate , and keep the switch as a fake?

You can also get those switches that need a little key to operate them.

I have the opposite problem: nobody else turns lights off, compounded by the fact that a bank of 4 switches might as well be a single switch…

If the bulb pops it would be better to have a way of turning off the power locally to change it.
Unswitched fcu, or key operated emergency lighting switch?

Here's the light I fitted - won't be changing a bulb anytime soon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0BKKX6TTT/ref...

Buuuut, unswitched FCU - thanks, that's the answer! Then if I need to isolate it for any reason I can just pop the fuse?

I would let them work it out for themselves, so that they become wiser and more capable of dealing with life's adversities in future.

Standard switches. This is the "makes my life easy" solution. Added to basket.... thanks

Another option would be to swop the light switch for one that is a security light switch - so needs a "key" to turn off and on -

Blanking plate and wago is fine, you can just turn the juice off if you ever need to replace it.

Is what I did, except with normal scotch tape.

It works fine, practically invisible and enough sticking force so that a normal pressure on the switch doesn't work.
