Afternoon folks,

Has anyone been to either www.matsuri-restaurant.com/highHolborn/index.htm or www.benihana.co.uk/about_benihana.html restaurants. I'm looking to go to a teppanyaki (this is where the chef cooks on a hotplate at your table in front of you) Japanese restaurant and a quick search on google reveals two these as good ones, does anyone have any experiences or can, or can anyone recommend other decent ones in Central London?

I'm currently swaying towards www.benihana.co.uk/about_benihana.html .

thanks

Thanks folks, but are any of the above teppanyaki where the chef cooks on a hotplate at your table in front of you, this is as important as good food.... thanks

Nobu isnt teppanyaki
Benihna is great fun...

There is a place 20 mins south of Guildford that I stayed at in September called Old Thorns, a Japanese run hotel and has a great Teppanyaki place, best I have had infact.

Bennihana is more entertainment than anything else.

Sochu on Charlotte St or Roka (the bar below it but also serves food from the same kitchen) is worth a shout - not cheap though.

Tatsuso is more upmarket than benihanas, but unless you want to be surrounded by city boys on expenses then the experience at benihanas will have a more varied and possibly lighter hearted clientele.

I have been to the one in Liverpool, its very nice and the chefs are pure entertainment!!! They can do things with an egg that Gordon Ramsey can only dream of!

The Restaurant is good value and its a good laugh, the food is good and the Beer is cold!

To get the most out of it go in a big group and get your own table!

Go to Matsuri. Atmosphere is dull because it is full of Japanese execs. That's because the food is stunning. If you want to be entertained by knife-juggling chefs with the rest of the tourists go to Benihana. IMHO!

Another vote for Nobu.

Makes you feel special in addition to being great food

(make great whiteboards too)

Matsuri St James gets my vote. Lots of Hibachis (the grills that they cook on in front of you) + a good sushi/sashimi room.

Set menus are good if youve never tried (from £30-90 per head if memory serves)

Full of Japanese, so they should know. Its next door to Quaglinos

(benihanas isnt very good value. Tiny portions and full of tourists)

Tatsuso is probably the single most expensive restaurant in the City its strictly for City lunches on company expenses (although it is good, its not open weekends either) its directly under my office

Another vote here. Drinks are expensive though, if like me you decide to hit the cocktail bar
