London bound on the A2, just before the Black Prince/ Bexleyheath off slip, they have replaced the old Gatso money cam with a new style cam ( I guess it's a speed cam ) that I've not seen before. It's smaller than the Gatso, an odd not-quite-square shape, bright yellow and with two black lenses, one half the size of the other.
Anyone know what it is ?

One of these? Its a Monitron. Bit like a Gatso but doesn't run out of film. Been around for a while in some parts of the country.

There's another one on the opposite carriageway now as well, the other side of the junction.

And Monitrons seem to replace Gatsos in the London area.

I would have to agree that they do look like this one. Saw them there last week. Much harder to see them amongst the bushes

They're just installing a few of these on the east bound North Circular on a downhill stretch, I think iircjust after the M1 junction. Will catch 1000's with them, could become the most profitable scamerras n the UK.

They flash.

I got zapped by one, awaiting the NIP.

The ones near us and the one that got me are mounted on very high poles therefore not nearly so obvious as the old ones.

They're also digital, so never run out of film.

Also don't have convenient place to hang a tyre - the poles tend to be higher and they can be set back further away from the road too.....

Certain i've seen a report about one of these either being cut down or burnt, but can't find the site --

I seem to remember something in the press about some of the new digital cameras needed a box of electronics to be located near them and at ground level? Perhaps that was specs rather than the money-trons....
