I'm writing to them to complain about the depreciation I'm suffering on my Cayman.

For me caused by the fact they have upped the power in the Boxster to the same level.

You can now get a convertible with the same power for less money. All the dealers I've spoken to say this is the main reason why the Cayman has taken such a beating.

Stand to lose 36% and I've done 6000 miles!

ARGHH!!

Why 3 days late?

Its Porsche's fault because they by upgrading the Boxster they have blurred the model ranges.

It doesn't make sense that a convertible with the same power should cost less than the coupe.

There are meant to be seperate ars but let's face it. Cayman = boxster with roof.

Look mate, I know it's a bit of a sickener, but that's life.

Did you buy it on finance? If so, you might want to check your settlement figure, because they charge you all the interest on day one, so if your Cayman was £50k, and it's now worth, say, £35k, you actaully owe them about £60k on it.

You can put that in your letter as well.

Was £50k and dealers are quoting me £32k.

Doesn't seem to be moving privately at a good price.

Had a Boxster S a few years back. Lost £4k in 2 years - that's sounds a lot better!

£18k in 6000 miles?

Thats £3 a mile yikes

Ar5e like a blood orange. Sorry mate, that's awful.

I thought I'd done badly losing £18k in three years on an old 996!!

Yeah man tell me about it!

Thought Porsche's were a safe purchase!

Should have bought a Fezza or 996 turbo. Damn it.

I think it is a reference to April 1st.

That is a pain for you but it happens with all models and makes, especially when you don't keep the car long.

I have a 6 month old C2S and the facelift is out soon. That will cost me for sure.

I also have a month old Z4 and now I hear the model is about to be replaced. It's a bugger but I hope to keep it for 5/6 years so what the hell.

Don't waste the stamp
You're right and that is exactly what will happen but I want to register my complaint. Will make no difference but at least I've objected to it.

I'm sure the market and current financial climate has something to do with it. No one seems to want a big engined petrol car at the moment. I've lost about £2k in 6 months on my Boxster. I'll just have to take it on the chin and bare it.

Cayman depreciation is nothing to do with upgrades of Boxsters. It was always a marketing nonsense, that plenty of us complained about at the time, that for the first time in history a manufacturer was selling the coupe for more than the convertible version. It was always going to happen.

Firstly, don't waste your time writing.

Secondly, wasn't this hole issue raised upon the Caymans release, ie Porsche charging more for a hardtop boxster than a softtop one ? Seems its come back to haunt.

Thirdly, who in thier right mind nowadays thinks they won't lose money on what is no different to any other mass produced car ?

More fool those that bought one, by checking the 911 price list where a cab is more expensive it was clear it was profiteering. Notwithstanding that many who want a porker either want a 911 or a drop top - for me the Cayman is neither.

Given the asking price of a Cayman S was £46k, if you are really only being offered £30k then stick it in classifieds.

Wait for it, I sense a.... but mine has a large number of expensive extras type comment coming up..... in which case yet again it proves that not far off standard spec as advised is still the way forwards.

That might be right if you didnt get a rebate on the interest when you settle, scaremongerer...

When Caymans get to around the age a Boxster is now. 10-11 years old, what sort of price will they be?
