Tiffany do seem a good company to me. I'm no expert but the stuff my missus has bought has been excellent. Apparently, they also do a free jewellery cleaning service for their customers. I've got an office in New York so I go to the one on Fifth Avenue quite regularly - which is nicer than the one in London.
Tiffany - they have a good rep - but they charge for that rep.
hallmarked silver is hallmarked silver, and there are alot of good jewellers out there who do excellent bespoke designs, and those that do excellent copies of Tiffanys work.
but to alot of girls - the little blue box is the icing on the cake - were as to others its not as important as the thought behind the purchase.

Oh dear god, that's scary, stuff with hearts is so....bleahhh. Still it's not a bad move, any man with any sense will avoid a woman with any heart thing round her neck as sure as if he knows she has an STD.http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Item.aspx?sku=1874...

Roop bought me an Elsa Peretti Heart necklace ( http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Item.aspx?sku=1066... )from Tiffanys years ago now.
Still wear it every day as its a very useable piece, goes with pretty much everything.
Oh and I have always wanted the little box with the white ribbon. Now I want more
Good quality from Tiffany's I cant wait to go to NY and do a Holly Golightly.

I was given a Tiffany heart before they became uber chavvy and ripped off. It means a lot to me so I still wear it, although when some chav in a queue asked me where I got it from - was it Argos? Cos it looked well nice, I cried.
Lots of fakes on ebay.. If you really want Tiffany, best to go to Tiffany & Co..As I am very close to them I better be careful what sayThere are some postives to Tiffany & Co and some negatives.
Positves include a company who are very serious about social accountability, they track all of their stones, only buy from approved sources and have them polished only in appoved factories, so you can be sure that there are no 'blood diamonds' (althought they virtually dont exist any more any way) and that the workers producing their products are treat in a good way. For some people this is important whilst for others it is not.
They are also the only company who's certificate is a guarantee of quality/colour/make. All other labs (GIA, AGS, HRD, etc, etc) clearly state that their grading reports are a matter of opinion and are not guarantees, as seen by the recent GIA case where large companies were paying to get better grades than reality. Tiffany will exchange a diamond if it is found to be less than their grading report.
Customer experience is also excellent and they offer upgrade services, free repairs on certain items, free cleaning, etc. Again for some this is important and for others it is not.
Negatives - of course price is one of them, but then again is a mont blanc pen really worth £300 compared to a waterman...
In diamonds they also stick to their own (very nice) make standards rather than chasing the latest 'fads' and you cannot buy AGS triple 0 stones there (you may be able to get them but they wont have the certificate)
I have seen more diamonds from more companies than most people in the industry. I would never say that Tiffany diamonds (my area of expertise) are crap, ot even close, but I do think you can buy better ones. However I dont know of anyone who can offer such good stones combined with the rest of the experience. As for their jewelry (and I am no expert here), it is my understanding that it is of a very high quality indeed.

Tiffany is a rip off for diamonds, we are talking 2-5x the price of diamonds you can get elsewhere.
For jewellery generally at bond street you are paying a hefty premium for the design, depending on the item it may be worth it!
Go to Bangkok and you can get a pen which is 95% of the quality of a mont blanc for 3% of the cost, the same thing is with Tiffany. If what they offer is not important to you then it may feel like a rip off, if these things are important to you then you may be willing to pay the extra for them. For jewellery generally at bond street you are paying a hefty premium for the design, depending on the item it may be worth it!

I'm sure I've read on here in the past from people in the trade that the quality of Tiffany stuff is crap?
But, as has been said, it's not the jewellery, it's the box that makes the impression.

I read in Portfolio Magazine that they are now deliberately moving downmarket with many of their shops carrying a larger range of stuff for around £100...however that little turquoise box will put a smile on most ladies' faces...
I think they actually did that a while ago and then reversed the decision as the stores were getting crowded with people buying the cheap stuff and those wanting to buy the higher end couldnt get in the doors. This decision cost them dearly and they then cleared out a lot of the bottom end stuff to stop this happening. As far as know they are keeping away from items with too low a price pointGassing Station | The Pie & Piston Archive | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
