Got a friday drive from M25 to Beer and will be hooning (caravan queue willing) down the 303.

Any good places for lunch you can recommend along the way ? Ideally between Andover/Salisbury.

I've had some excellent food in the Red Lion at Babcary, about a mile off the 303 near Wincanton. Nice setting too, and loads of parking.

The Mallet at Newton Tony.
The Beckford Arms, Fonthill Gifford.

Both great and a few miles from the A303.

If you'd like a very decent pint, I can highly recomend the Red Lion at Kilmington 2m north of Mere just past Stourhead. They only do food at lunchtimes but it is good (if basic) Frequented by a selection of petrolheads too, the car park often brings out a few gems at this time of year.

One of the best decent proper "old" pubs in the area, it's so far behind the times they don't even have a till !! hehe
