Hey, plan on doing my CBT soon and getting a road legal 125cc pit bike.
Only want it for work and back (about 4 miles a day round trip) and it is along back roads.
But my question is this...which one??
Ive seen a couple of Shinerays on Ebay and PH but dont know that much about them, are they any good?
My mate in work has a X-sport 'FYM' and I have heard good things about those but cant seem to find any that are on the road!
Does anybody know a store (online or not) where good road legal pit bikes are sold? Or anybody here want to sell theirs?

Also I wanna make my bike look nice smile anybody know if Shinerays are the CRF plastics? (or are compatible)

Many thanks in advance! ~ASH~

  • EDIT* Also if I bought a off road pit bike is it possible to make them on road? And if yes what need to be done apart from light set and tyres? wink

If you want to make a pitbike road legal, you need a recipt from the dealer saying that import tax and VAT have been paid. I think that's where most people stumble, especially after buying on ebay!

Other than that I think its just the usual lights, horn etc.

I used to own one of the chinese pit bikes. Good fun but shocking build quality, bits brake off all the time. If you do buy a cheap one, check (or ask them to check if buying from a dealer) that the tyres fit properly in the rims. When my bike first arrived the back tyre was totally on the piss and the bike wobbled furiously. They sent me a repalcement which still wasnt perfect.

Thanks for the reply, I am a tyre fitter by profession so sould be ok with those smile
I'm thinking of buying an Xsport 'FYM' CR3 Guy Cooper Replica from an ebay shop. £899. Anybody if that is worth it or if those are good quality bikes?
Or anybody had one and would like to share how the bike peforms with me?

X-Sports used to have very weak gearboxs unsure what they are like now.

I got a monster moto and then stupidly had the engine done by spec-developments which no means it flips over in top gear when you wind it on lol.

Cheap pit bikes cant be started in gear either as they mount the clutch on the crank instead of the secondary shaft.

KLX110 Kawasakis are probably the best but you get what you pay for.

Lights aren't actually required for an MOT - but the bike will have a 'daytime use only' certification.

Give these guys a call. They sell pit bikes, have run them on the road and they also run an arrive-and-ride pit bike race series. So they know what works and what doesn't.
