Being an early car my bonnet stay was not fixed to the bonnet but resided in my boot.

Due to a recent grage fire, which resulted in the totla loss of many cars and things, I have lost my bonnet stay.

Where can I get another?

Where do normal ones go? On the car or the bonnet?

Agreed Paul, would have suggested Clives one but it has been out of stock on the website for a while now.

Have you just lost the upright?
If you still have the bit across the underside of the bonnet you could make your own upright with a bit of ally rod from B&Q and a UJ from a model shop.

Whichever you choose, as you have a precat, see if you can get a bend at the other end (that traditionally goes into the wing plate).
Then by attaching a fuel/brake rubberised P clip to the middle/top bolt on the water pump you can clip your stay into that. It keeps it very well out of the way when you're working under the bonnet.

It was just a silver (same colour as the car) rod with a L shaped beng in one end and a Z shaped one in the other.

My Griff is a 92 model and the bonnet prop is held in place by a rubber grommet thingy hte goes on the z shaped end and retains it in the cross stay mounting, or it did until the grommet split. I replaced it with a V8enhancements one. I looked at the Steve Heath one but thought it would cause the bonnet to sag, this was confirmed when I saw one fitted to a 500 griff reg T11VER at Torque RVT the other day.

The sag is more to do with the bonnet hinges non-linear movement more than anything else. Even with the original centre position original, my Griff's bonnet used to sag towards one side or the other.

Assuming you mean the clip under the bonnet Clevor Trevor do one for 40p or so. You did not go down the Steve Heath route then? They come with their own holder.

The clip should be screwed into a glassed in nut. The problem is that when bonnets get refurbed/replaced etc, this nut is forgotten about and there is nothing for the clip to screw into. The Mk 2 bonnet stay was developed at the request of a customer who didn't have the fitting and equally didn't want to touch the bonnet.

Yes they are a self adhesive pad, but after it came loose and I had reglued it I decided to replace the floppy stay with something a bit more substantial and the Mk2 from Steve Heath was fine for me as it came with its own retainer negating the original concept of having the support bar dragging across the engine. Other bonnet stays are available.thumbup

SH one for me I think. I knove Clive's stuff is top notch, but in an effort to keep costs down (da*n tax man!), near on £100 is a bit steep for me.

so does this not represent the original then? does anyone know one available with a bolt on the end to go in the orignal nut?

I've found these 2 from RG
http://www.tvrshop.com/search-subsection-detail.as...

thing is, between the top 2 clips, mines the bottom half of the bottom one and the top half of the top one, does anyone know if the top one will fit in the nut or if the clip on the bottom one will fit the bonnet stay in?
