Opinions on Nexen tyres
Discussion
I need tyres for the BMW, They're all pretty worn and by the time I get home one will almost definetly be an MOT fail, so I might as well do them all at once.
Budget and longevity is important, outright dry grip less so as I don't really rag the hell out of the car. Though I would like it to be good in the wet (and possibly snow).
These seem to be a good compromise, blackcircles do them for £72 rear (255/40-17) and £65 front (235/45-17)

My Wife's car has Nexen, although a completely different size to what you'll be looking at (185/50 14). They feel dreadful in the wet, no grip, and you can't feel what they're doing either. They are all over the place on wet man-holes and white lines. These tyres have only got about 2000 miles on them.
No complaints in the dry.
Even the Wife commented on how bad they are and she has zero interest in these things.

I've recently driven 8000 miles in three months in a 2005 Chrysler Grand Voyager for a client which came fitted with 215/65/16 Nexens on the front. It was passable in the dry as it's not the type of car you throw about, but in the wet it was truly terrifying with zero front end grip and terminal understeer on roundabouts at little above walking pace. Fortunately they wore out quickly and I got them replaced with some Goodyears. The difference was like night and day. I would avoid them at all costs (especially on a RWD car!) and get some Falken 452 or Kumho Ecsta.
It's a pet hate of mine talking about a brand of tyre without listing the model, it's like asking for an opinion of BMW when you you're looking at a 318i.
For instance I'd recommend the Falken ZE912, but not the ZE512.
I've just put a set of Nexen SB652's on my girlfriends KA just to see what they were like, and they're not awful. They suit the car and they cost £34 a tyre (fitted). But then I wouldn't have put a set of Nexen N3000s on my 350z however cheap.
It's really useful to know exactly what tyre and car combination we're talking about to give any meaningful feedback.

have a look here:

There's a wide range of reputable brands for not much more than you've been quoted above. Obviously, you'd have to factor in getting someone to fit them (circa £10 per wheel).

Actually while we're on the subject of tyres, does anyone know if Marshall's are any good? Need to change the fronts tomorrow, all I can get hold of at this short notice without paying silly prices is Marshall MU11s, or I may be able to get hold of Kumho Ecstas for a bit more than the Marshalls
