Oh dear.... should have stayed in bed when I saw it was raining! Was at the ring last Monday and thought I'd tootle round, the surface was like ice and the car was moving around all over the place. So I slowed, but not enough, and at Metzgesfeld II it snapped round.

Poor conditions, poor driving paperbag and some hefty bills to follow...

Still, as far as I can tell, the chassis, engine, steering and suspension are all fine so all is not lost, and it'll be back on the road soon!

Be careful out there people!

Wet track, leaves, novice, Nurburgring, road car! personally I value my car and health too much to take a risk like that. Get it repaired and don't be so brave in future.

Carp news, am curious about what happened afterwards.

Were the marshals okay, did they check for insurance (TF)?

Did you have to buy any armco or pay for closure time, upfront or given a bill?

The marshalls were pretty helpful, arrived within 5 mins, during which time I was on the track flagging down other cars to warn them. They didn't check for insurance as no-one else was involved but they took my details and checked my driving licence. There were only about 10 other cars out at the time and the track stayed open.

Despite what seemed like minimal damage to the barriers, it turned out I was charged for 3 posts and one 4 metre section of armco, plus the time of the marshalls while they were in attendance. Plus they had to call out a specialist truck to free my car's nose, which was truly wedged between two sections of barrier. They had to actually remove a whole section, take the nose out, then reassemble the barrier. After about 90 mins out on the track we eventually went back to the office, where I had the pleasure of settling the 646 Euro bill.... and that's before I pay the release fee to the recovery company.

sorry to see your car like that.
I did similar earlier this year so know that gut wrenching pain of seeing the damage.
The worste part for me was the point you loose control and know that your going to suffer damage.
Where's your radiator ?

I thing a new fiber glass front end is about 1500.
I let mine get written off but the repair quote was for front and rear and it was SO overblown by the workshop that the insurance just laughed. I know it was sold as a reapairable with no chassis damage.

Good luck

Oh god no ! Thats 2 stories i've read in as many days here on PH about accidents on The `Ring. For some bizarre reason i can't find the other but it included an e36 M3 that was totally destroyed.

Hope your ok and not injured in any way. I'm sure that there are enough knowledgeable here on PH that can help you get it sorted and put back on the road in no time.

I trudged around in the mud for some time looking for it before realising it was wedged firmly within the nose, within the barrier. It was mangled, so I left it there, but scooped up everything else in case it could be used in the rebuild.

Thank you sir, that is indeed the one. It really does make you think. I've driven round it now a good few times in my M3 and seeing those pictures really puts me off going round it ever again !
