Basically, driving home earlier and i went over a hump back bridge a bit quickly.

No signs to warn me and it didnt look like a hump back it had a slight incline from my direction and then something like a 3-4:1 decline on the other side.

Anyways, i took off (hit it at about 40mph) and landed with a bit of a bump.

Nothing felt wrong afterwards and car ran straight and true so all seems fine.

Got home, had a quick peek and the sumps a bit scratched and possibly dented. not leaking (atleast not that i can see) so hopefully its all fine, also nothing suspension wise looks visably damaged.

What can a severe jolt do to an engine/suspension and what should i check to ensure there was no damage.

Feel a bit stupid now.

40mph? What you need there is more run up speed.

..and yeah a camera smile

near where i live there is an awesome hump back often used for jumping, and further down the road is a 2nd humpy bridge on a bend.

a pal of mine once jumped the 2nd bridge

I dont know what happened, i was doing under the speed limit and just didnt see it, i think i was over tired
His passenger said:
we must've been doing 70 or 80 to leave the ground as high as we did and snap the fence posts half way up
I'm happy to report that a ford orion was hurt in the event smile

Someone I know went over the bump below at 100mph and got a bit of air, so he dropped his mate off with a camera and came back, this time doing 120mph.

There were skid marks on all 4 wheel arches and a scraped sump. The video of it is mad, sparks everywhere...

Reminds me of a similar incident in my 'yoof' (as passeneger).

3 up in a mates mums' Metro City X, heading down a country lane at night - conversation goes:

Pax - "Hang on - this is that bit of road isn't it?"
Driver - "what bit of road?"
Pax - "The bit we came along a few weeks ago and said next time we'll have to take this bit much faster"
Driver - "Yes, I think you're right"
Me - "I wasn't with you guys last time - what are you on about?"
Driver - "WATCH THIS...."

Cue City X getting proper air, with the horizon dissapearing for a good second or two. Car made it home but not much further after that.

RIP City X

Did it once by complete accident in a punto hire car.....turns out they have a very forward c of g as front bumper hit ground first (the feeling was eerily similar to going over the handle bars of a bicycle!)

The following exchange happened when an old friend (now a copper) was driving his, quite rapid at the time, Uno Turbo.

<hurtling along some windy backroads>

Dave: Not sure where we are, you'll have to tell me.
Me: No worries, just follow this road up to the top of the hill and you get to a junction, go left.

<half mile further get to junction>
Dave: Oh!!! RIGHT!!! Yeah I know where we are now.
Me: Cool.

<Nails the car downhill, I mean, he nails it>
Me (thinking): *Meh...he'll back off....He knows this piece of road....He said so....He's going to brake right about NOW! ....He knows there's a....*

The car hit a bump in the road that's kind of hidden when you're going downhill with a slight bend on the entry.

The car took off. I mean properly took off. All 4 wheels.

When we (eventually) landed various bits of trim flew off, his stereo fell from underneath the glovebox. How we landed with lock applied and managed not to trip end over end I do not know.

We all went quiet for a bit...until eventually:

Dave: "....I didn't know THAT was there...."

There's a mini-humpback bridge near me, 60mph (within the limit) will get you some air, 90mph will get you some serious distance.

I feel that as a driver of an Audi with a Quattro system it is my responsibilty to jump were possible, although the underside of the bumper is looking a little punished.

I've been airborne in a fully laden Merc (W126?) estate. All four passengers assumed the driver had seen the bridgeeek It made a hell of a bang on landinghehe

I also may have been pressing on once and inadvertently got a little air in my Impreza. Cue a screaming hissy fit from SWMBO and an OS map that she'd been inspecting at the time screwed up and dumped in the footwell.redface

small problem with my jump is that the car isnt very high of the ground. 2.5 inches at most.

clears speed bumps but scrubs the front bumper when backing off my drive.

Here's how to make a st yourself sandwich with a side dish of p1ssed off (ex)girlfriend:

Firstly, take a cocky, inexperienced 17 year old and add a beaten up 1 litre Fiesta, preferably in glorious 'jewish gold' (brown).

Secondly, mix in just enough petrol to get you from college to home and a sprinkling of wanting to show off.

Lastly, you will need a new bird that requires some 'warming up', and a long country road with a hidden 'love bay' (truck stop) at the end of it.

Now, to make this st yourself sandwich, you will need to hit the country road at approximately 60 miles an hour (although insurance will need to be told it was about 25), you must first make sure it is completely dark and your lights only just work, then take the hump-back at around the same speed, 60mph (25), thinking it will all be OK.

When you wake up about 15 seconds later and the car is on it's roof, try to persuade afore-mentioned blonde beauty that you could both finish the journey to the 'love bay' on foot.

Still can't remember why she left me, something to do with her mum I recall....

Mum did this once on a humpback bridge when she was "pushing on" a bit in the old family 156...

...but she cracked the sump wide open and dumped the contents of the engine all over the road.
