Daihatsu - Fourtrak vs. Sportrak?
Discussion
Presumably the fuel injected model is the ELXi?
I think the Fourtrak may be a little overkill as most seem to be 7 seaters, however the Sportrak looks interesting, though all the ones within a sensible distance seem to suffer from lairy colours and decals.
I've said this on various threads but it's bloody grim how few sensible priced, non-shed, small 4x4's seem to be on the market right now.

I thought the opposite when I was looking.I was shocked that you can get any number of 'soft roaders' for under £750.
Pajaros seem cheap for what they are, with decent ones from £1500 etc
What is your budget ?
sportrak is a 1.6 petrol....the later ones are injection 94 bhp the early ones are carb around 80 bhp. there lively enough 0-60 around 12, and will comfortably pull an indicated 100. my grandad had 4 in a row the last one being a 93 elxi top of the range, been lying in one of our fields since he died in '99 with 23k on it. sad really, i always did mean to put it back on the road but its probably to late now.
pretty much bomb proof apart from electric window motors which are crap. daihatsu main dealers couldn't supply one in the 90's so the chances of getting one now is very slim indeed. we ended up having to jam ours up.
sorry dont know much about fourtraks.

Any info on what to look for beyond the bleeding obvious would be appreciated!

I think a lot of folk are hanging on to them after the recent snow, just in case we get some more. For many they've realised that the cost of keeping a cheap 4x4 is outweighed by not losing wages due to the ability to get into work in severe weather conditionspaddyhasneeds said:

The extra 2 seats in the boot are little more than jump seats fitted to either side , IIRC they don't come with seat belts either although that may have just been the one i looked at which may have had the seats fitted later as you can fit lap belts to them.I think the Fourtrak may be a little overkill as most seem to be 7 seaters, .

Ideally £2-3k. Should be going to look at a Pinin and Fourtrak this weekend - the Fourtrak is an R plate 2.8 TDL-SE - I need to get an idea what physical size one is.

I think there are short and long wheelbase versions but even so, I've looked round a couple and they're tiny relative to most 4x4s. More Freelander size than Range Rover. A lot of space inside though.Any info on what to look for beyond the bleeding obvious would be appreciated!
As you know I've been looking at similar vehicles and the biggest problem I can see with the Fourtrak is rust, and the fact they've almost all been used for towing stuff (normally horses!), so the running gear's probably had a harder life than the mileage might suggest. Having said that they seem quite capable of towing so I don't know how critical that is.
From what I've read, the Sportrak doesn't have the fundamental strength to be a proper off-roader and isn't really good enough in other areas to make it worth considering.
