I do work full time but on a trainees wage I could use extra funds. I was thinking about doing this to save a bit more money for my holiday to New York and other things, just wondered if its financially worth it, seeing as I use my own car and with the type of driving involved my car is not the most economical. Friend works for said take away a couple of evenings a week doing 4 hour shifts, drives on average 30 miles and says he is about £35 to £40 in profit most nights, sound about right?

Legally i suppose there is an insurance issue as your car will not be for just SD&P, although i'm betting most who do this wont say anything to the insurance.

To be honest you really have to take into consideration not just fuel but wear and tear on the car and whilst you wont be driving particularly hard all that stop and starting wont do the old fuel consumption any good at all especially if its a larger engined car.

Do a realistic working out and ask yourself after your costs is it worth working 4 hours and being a tenner in profit at the end of it.

I'm not trying to put you off but please work it out properly.

In your car, no way. You'd be lucky to break even on fuel costs alone, let alone wear and tear. Average chinese would maybe pay £10-£15 a night plus tips. You could do 50-60 miles easily on a busy night. Plus you need the insurance, and as it's cash in hand there's always the risk of someone informing the tax man.

When i worked for a Indian, i was making at least £40 a night, up to £80 some times, and that is on a Tuesday.

On a Friday/Saturday night, it was easy to make £60 - £150

Rubbish! I earned more a night in 1994, plus £1 per delivery plus tips.

Not worth the hassle tbh. Never done it myself but know others who have. If you take into account the cost of tyres, fuel and wear and tear, you wont make a massive amount of money. Not to mention the fact you will have customers moaning about the delay, the foods cold etc. Depending where in the country you are, you may end up going to all sorts of address in the middle of know where and up horrible pot holed tracks. I would advise that you do get business cover on your insurance. My mate was stopped by police and was reported for no insurance or something similiar. Much better ways out there for making extra cash.

Im doing it for dominos. Started about 3 weeks ago and its not to bad. I get 5.80 an hour plus 80 pense for every delivery, done ten deliveries last night in 5 hours. So roughly 7.40 an hour. Plus I walked away with 16 or 17 pound in tips. As dominos is a big company, you get taxed, but you also get business insurance paid for which is a massive plus. Im doing it in a 1.6 focus getting 33mpg and do 30 to 50 miles a night.

I've thought about doing it for Dominoes, there's one down the street from my girlfriend.

Did they have an advertised vacancy or did you just walk in and ask if they needed any drivers?

When I said pay I meant that's what they give you for petrol money-your tips and delivery charge are on top of this.

Still don't think an automatic BMW 528 would be the best car for doing it in though, it makes sense with small diesels/economical petrols cars. You'll get what, maybe 40 miles to a tenner round town?

Phoned them up, he asked when I can start, I said friday. That was about it. Had to fill in an application form very much a formality than anything else.
