emission control warning light

Whilst driving today a warning light came on the dash, i decided to drive home so i could look in the manual to see what it was. It said it was the emission control warning light. They recommended taking the car to porsche to have it checked out. Any ideas what it could be? My car is a 2001 boxster s, wondered if it could be the cat? Anyone else had this before? I will take it to a garage to get it checked out this week.

Happened to me earlier this year. It could be one of the lamda sensors.

Had this on my '98 996. My exhaust was leaky. Shoddy bolts rusted and gaskets leaked. I could hear it when the car was cold, but not when hot as the exhaust expanded somewhat. About 3 hours labour to fix as they need to be drilled out in some cases.
